Nature of Work

This is responsible work assisting with the operations of the City's marinas and dockage facilities.

Work involves responsibility for the day to day operations of a city marina, dockage and/or mooring facility; assignment of berths or moorings to boat owners; the recording of the assignments; preparation of monthly revenue, occupancy, and other related reports for the Marinas Manager; the collection of established fees; the inspection of facilities; the enforcement of marina's rules and regulations and some supervision of clerical, maintenance and custodial staff. Work may also include the operation of a boat to transport persons to and from a mooring area and/or for facility maintenance and/or repair projects.

Work assignments and general supervision will be provided by the Marinas Manager or his/her designee. An employee in this class is expected to exercise good judgment in making some decisions within the limits of established policies. Responsibility is assumed for designated areas or functions in the absence of the Marinas Manager or the Assistant Manager.

Essential Functions

Assists in the marina(s) and/or dockage facilities by performing complex office management duties and assisting with the supervision of clerical, maintenance and custodial personnel.

Supervises and assists in the assignment of berths and transient dockage reservations, execution of dockage agreements, preparation of monthly revenue and other reports, collection of dockage payments, and the proper entry and recording of customer information and dockage payments into the marinas computer system.

Oversees the customer files and payment records, and ensures the timely collection of dockage agreements and required paperwork from customers.

Oversees the proper maintenance of his/her facility's petty cash and float cash funds; ensures timely deposit of daily revenues and transmittal of daily collection summary reports to the Finance Department.

Ensures the efficient and safe operations of forklifts and other mechanical equipment at a Marina facility.

Provides daily management and supervision of his/her facility; supervises and ensures the adherence to the safety rules and regulations of local, state or federal agencies.

Assists as needed in delinquent dockage collections, procurement, and accounts payable functions under the direction of the Marinas Manager or Assistant Marinas Manager.

Communicates with U.S. Coast Guard, Customs, and other federal, state, and local agencies regarding daily operational issues as needed.

Ensures that the facility's staff is properly trained in divisional policies and procedures, including computer applications.

Provides weather reports and related conditions for boating in the area as required.

Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 60 college credits

  • Two (2) years experience in marina operations to include one (1) year public contact work.

  • Working knowledge of operating a forklift is desirable.

  • One (1) year experience supervising staff may be preferred.

OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of the required experience mentioned above.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Must be willing to work flexible days and hours, including weekends and nights.

  • Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency*. Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

  • To qualify under the equivalency clause, applicant must provide proof of education in one or more of the following applicable forms: copy of high school diploma or equivalent, Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies:

Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:

  • An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR

  • A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), OR

  • A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE), OR

  • A recognized Professional Organization

Selection Preference for City Residents: In accordance with APM 2-02, applicants for classified positions who are City of Miami residents and new hires will receive preference in selection from interview ranking bands provided that any two (2) of the following documents are submitted with the employment application and again at time of interview:

A. Utility bill dated within 60 days of the date of submission

B. Valid Florida Driver License or State-issued I.D.

C. Property Tax Statement dated within 1 year of the date of submission

D. Properly executed valid lease agreement

E. Homestead Exemption dated within 1 year of the date of submission

F. Motor Vehicle Registration dated within 90 days of the date of submission

G. Official school records or transcripts, dated within 90 days of the date of submission

H. W-2 (or 1099) Tax Form dated within 1 year of the date of submission

City of Miami residents are granted selection preference over non-City of Miami residents within the same ranking band resulting from an interview process.

Selection Preference: Selection preference within the same ranking band resulting from an interview process will be granted in the following order: 1) preference eligible veterans, 2) active City of Miami employees, 3) City of Miami residents, 4) all others.
