Overview
This position is located at Eagle Park in North Stonington, CT as part of Manufacturing Engineering for the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class programs. Manufacturing Engineering develops, researches, designs and procures special tools, fixtures and other manufacturing aids required to facilitate submarine construction. The Manufacturing Test Engineering Supervisor will lead a team of 8-12 test engineers, manufacturing reps, design techs and other support personnel to support development of fixtures and engineered procedures required to successfully execute the COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class construction programs.
The Manufacturing Test Engineering Supervisor will lead their team to accomplish the following primary job responsibilities:
Support engineering in identifying and developing methods and tools required for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems and modules.
Participation in Design/Build teams during new product design; review of Class drawings for manufacturing concerns; development of concepts for tools and fixtures; preparation of lifting and handling procedures and drawings for rigging submarine components and modules.
Providing pro-active construction support and maintaining consistent interface with the construction trades in support of the above engineering areas of responsibility.
Developing efficient arrangements of existing production facilities, and layouts for new, expanded or upgraded facilities.
Coach and mentor Manufacturing Engineers with the goal of developing the workforce's ability to practically apply engineering skills to ship's construction.
Primary job responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor include:
Managing and leading the team to support department completion of first time quality products that are technically acceptable and delivered on time and within cost in a manner that safely supports the construction of COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class submarines.
Supervision, training, mentorship, and development of personnel.
Ensuring the group is adequately staffed to support scheduled and emergent work.
Manage COLUMBIA change work, coordinating with applicable engineering and design supervisors and presenting updates to the program office.
Manage coordination with planning organizations to ensure D467 products are tied to support construction
Maintaining positive working relationships with construction trades management
This position requires strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must work well with all levels of engineering, trades, trade management, and program management. Work in production areas and onboard active and new construction submarines is required. Occasional travel, weekend, and evening hours may be required.
Qualifications
Required:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in submarine construction, test, operation, or maintenance, or related naval construction.
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
Relevant Associates or Bachelor's degree
Previous supervisor or leadership experience
Experience with welding, structural fabrication, and/or GD&T
Previous experience in Manufacturing Engineering
Experience supporting construction in the shipyard environment
Experience with CLB, VPM, and SSW design products and procedures
