The T&I (Transportation & Industrial) business, within DuPont, currently has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Technology Engineer at the Newark, DE Pencader Plant. The site manufactures Vespel Parts and Shapes.
The Manufacturing Technology Engineer provides technical expertise in one or more technology areas and recognized as a leader in that technology. This person will be expected to use current applied experience in related industries (Powder Metal, Ceramics etc.) to play a critical role in developing new applications and processes. Leads teams to upgrade processes and products that may range from incremental improvements to major technology changes. Develops improved process instrumentation and control strategies, process safety, yields, plant capacity and uptime performance. May serve in a Process Safety Management critical role. Mentors other engineers/personnel and assists in operations training.
Lead New Parts Commercialization Process (RFQ's, capability studies, recipe and routing setup, initial manufacturing etc.)
Leads specification reviews, contract reviews, engineering change notices
Identify, initiate and implement engineering solutions to improve process operations, including improvements in quality, capacity, uptime, rate, cost, safety, health, and environmental. Six Sigma methodology will be applied whenever possible.
Develop and implement optimal, cost effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products
Coordinate Capital projects
Provide engineering support to Operations working with Continuous Improvement and Operations teams to improve cost, quality, uptime of manufacturing
Lead improvement projects that focus on defect reduction to achieve increased earnings, process efficiency and capacity for the Vespel manufacturing operations
Provide guidance and technical assistance to operators, mechanics and less experienced engineers, to ensure safe and high-quality production from these commercial facilities
Conduct root cause failure analyses as required, to address safety incidents, quality complaints or reliability incidents
B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Six Sigma Green Belt Certification required
Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred
10 years of experience preferred in particulate material compaction and part processing
Direct experience with the use of "state of the art" compaction equipment for manufacturing complex part configurations
Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods, including process flow improvement and production equipment improvements
Product development and process improvement experience
Experience with typical customer Quality System requirements (APQP etc.)
Set-up and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment
Capital project-management experience
Ability to work and communicate with all levels of the organization
Application of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements
Ability to lead diverse teams
Ability to manage large and small capital projects
Ability to forecast and manage costs within budget constraints
Ability to champion change in a manufacturing environment
Data driven decision making; root cause failure analysis
Strong communication skills, both written and oral
Self-initiative, a motivated self-starter that can work independently

Work schedule is typically Monday through Friday. Engineer will be expected to respond to support needs outside this schedule as needed, whether for troubleshooting or planned events.
