Employees use their knowledge of engineering, chemistry, food science, microbiology, biotechnology, and other sciences to propose, prepare, conduct, direct, and analyze operations data, experiments and plant trials. The objective is to further knowledge and/or develop new and better processes, products and productivity improvements. Some engineers engage in process development (such as development of new processing strategy or equipment), in productivity improvements and some in quality resolution for making robust processes. Differences in levels relate principally to greater depth and breadth of knowledge and experience applied to examining more complex systems and in experiments/projects and in the degree of independent judgment/action allowed in bringing efforts to a conclusion.
Employees in positions at this level of the series primarily provide project assistance to others in various Technology and Innovation (T&I) and Manufacturing groups throughout DuPont Nutrition and Biosciences (N&B). A limited amount of independent project planning and execution is expected. Work will be completed in research facilities, vendors, contract manufacturers, and commercial manufacturing facilities. Work is performed under limited general supervision.

Use process expertise to insure facility and personal adherence to regulatory, company policies, good manufacturing and food safety requirements.
Interface with T&I, Engineering, Operations and Business resources to develop innovations and coordinate product rollouts in extrusion and spray drying facilities.
Author experimental outlines, experimental reports and trial authorizations. Execute experiments, plant trials and co-packer/vendor trials.
Design final production processes to meet technical needs, including the creation of mass balances, process flow diagrams, and cost estimation of new processes.
Provide technical leadership and support to pilot and commercial plant capital projects, including design, capital justification, PSM, and commissioning activities.
Provide daily technical support to pilot plant operations including process troubleshooting, root cause analysis, experiment planning, and risk analysis.
Lead process optimization efforts at commercial plants to meet goals on quality and productivity, through improvements to process standards, equipment, control, and training.
Continuously build a body of technical knowledge around unit operations and processes for extrusion and isolated soy protein products.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Biochemical, Food, or Mechanical Engineering
1- 7 years of process engineering experience with unit operations applicable to DuPont N&B (extraction, separation, thermal processing, extrusion, drying, etc.)
Theories, principles, methods and procedures of applicable field of engineering
Statistics and experimental design
MS Office package including Visio
