Summary

Manage day-to-day planning, operation and problem-solving for departmental tasks to ensure production, quality, and safety requirements are achieved in accordance with specific production schedules as well as company objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and demonstrates Safety as the first priority in all activities.

  • Responsible for execution of manufacturing operations for a specific production team in accordance with schedules, specifications and other business needs.

  • Responsible for the quality of the execution of manufacturing operations within the cell, department, group or organization.

  • Prepares work cell, tools, materials, and documentation to support daily work plan.

  • Ensures business metrics such as safety, productivity, quality, overtime and others are met.

  • Daily communication with team in both formal and informal settings.

  • Coordinate manpower to required daily tasks based on absenteeism and production requirements.

  • Escalate issues and develop recovery plans to address gaps.

  • Holds all individuals, including him/herself, accountable for delivering results and satisfying internal and external customers.

  • Addresses any performance related issues of team members including, but not limited to, conflict resolution or dysfunctional behavior and to escalate such when necessary.

  • Perform production tasks within the department as needed during times of absenteeism, increased production demands, engineering activities, etc.

  • Create an environment oriented to open communications, cohesive team effort and workplace trust.

  • Participate in, and when required, lead the team in company initiatives, training and development activities.

  • Ensure all team members have the required data, training, tools, and materials to effectively and efficiently complete assigned tasks.

  • Manage, train, and develop team members

  • May be requested to assume leadership functions in absence of supervisor

  • Other duties may be assigned as required

  • Must demonstrate a general knowledge of the entire manufacturing process understanding impacts to internal customers.

  • Able to read, interpret and execute build instructions from work orders, work instructions, quality documentation, specifications, drawings and other business documents.

  • Must lead by example.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain and demonstrate, a working knowledge of the manufacturing activity within which he/she is assigned.

  • Must be, or be capable of becoming, a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the assigned area.

  • Capable of and able to identify quality issues, flaws and/or shortcomings and provide constructive feedback to direct reports in order to correct such.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal communicator in both formal and informal settings.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules; work, operating and maintenance instructions; procedure manuals; schedules; etc.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  • Ability to use basic computer programs (MS Office).

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of both Imperial and Metric measurement systems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Typical 10-hour workdays.

  • Typical 4 or 5 day work week schedule based upon facility, department and schedule loading.

  • Overtime is occasional to frequent based on a number of factors.

  • May be required to work during production shutdowns or other "off-schedule" periods to conduct special activities.

  • Safety glasses may be required while in specific production areas

  • Other PPE may be required based on specific projects.
