Location Profile:

Headquartered in Irvine, CA, Shur-Lok manufactures fastening systems with superior locking devices for critical requirements including engine module assembly, structural assembly, rotor blade attachment, and aircraft engine shaft and spindle applications. Operations at the Irvine location include: CNC Machining, CNC Waterjet Cutting, Laser Marking, Heat Treating, NDT, and EDM.

SUMMARY

Supervises direct labor employees involved in the manufacturing of SLC products. Manages assigned company resources (personnel, equipment and materials) to achieve work schedules and satisfy customer requirements in an efficient and cost effective manner. May occasionally operate production equipment or perform hands-on production tasks, not to exceed 20 % of the work day (such activities must be cleared in advance by the Manufacturing Manager).

Most decisions are implemented without review. Large purchases, staff additions are reviewed with manager.

Ensures personnel safety, quality of product, etc. Internal contacts include QA, Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering, Human Resources, other department managers. External contacts include tooling companies, machine companies regarding technical matters. Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering to develop process standards and methods.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

Update Daily Management board and communicate status of Dispatch list, RYG report, weekly shipment plan, Flex performance and projections during daily walk thru with management. Escalate any issues/concerns needing management support during this walk thru.

Schedule jobs to maximize machine and operator efficiencies and reports capacity constraints to production control.

Achieve daily metrics including ESH, productivity, scrap, dock, sales and other significant measures.

Use the daily flex to monitor and manage key metrics especially variable spending. Each supervisor must understand spending details on a daily basis.

Maintain proper staffing levels to achieve budgeted levels of performance.

Use the Productivity Pipeline form to update and manage cost reduction projects and report status on a weekly basis.

Analyze processes to improve efficiency (includes purchase of new capital equipment, planning arrangement of equipment, use of cost effective production techniques) and achieve cost reduction expectations.

Implement lean manufacturing methods (6S, flow, visual organization, etc.)

Ensure that manufacturing documentation procedures and protocol are followed at all times.

Monitor scrap, yield and part efficiencies on existing programs to ensure achievement of budget.

Weekly or bi-weekly employee communication meetings.

Ensure machinery is at optimum repair by implementing preventative maintenance programs, assigning repair tasks and maintaining spare parts.

Obtain tooling, gages and other supplies needed for production prior to release of the router to machines. Implement set-up time reduction methods.

Train personnel in production tasks, safety requirements, teamwork and lean manufacturing principles.

Check quality and quantities of product runs, SPC charts, first article charts, accuracy of routers,

Resolve technical and administrative problems.

Communicate and enforce company policies. Provide feedback to senior management on employee suggestions and concerns.

Comply with and enforce all company safety rules and regulations. These include: the use of company-provided personal protective equipment/supplies (i.e., safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes); maintaining a clean work area; operating equipment and using tools in a safe manner; correcting unsafe conditions or practices.

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

Eliminate waste, solicit input from employees who are knowledgeable / directly involved with the area of concern. Implement reasonable employee suggestions to solve identified issues.

Use of Pareto, SPC, fishbone (cause and effect diagram) and other problem-solving tools to diagnose situations in a team setting.

Handle confidential information regarding manufacturing drawings, processes and personnel.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervise one or more groups of employees in one or more manufacturing areas. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Technology or related field required. A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) may be accepted if the individual has demonstrated their capability through experience and training.

Must be able to provide proof of and/or have demonstrated leadership or expanded responsibility growth. Strong knowledge base for the following software: MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Project and basic use of MRP systems strongly preferred.

Minimum of 2 years leadership experience in a technical environment required (e.g. manufacturing, engineering, etc.).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, managers, and/or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Strong mechanical ability.

Responsibilities: * Act as an operations technical leader for new products in the PDP process and its main interface between R&D, Pilot, and commercial manufacturing * Support operational transitions through development, clinical, and commercialization phases and ensure completion of Design Transfer * Responsible for the development of applicable Process Development (IQ/OQ/PQ) protocols and provide support for execution of validation plans and reports * Manage pilot production builds, planning, tracking and execution * Drive the development and manage the execution of complex experiments and tests (including writing an executing protocols) on new or existing product lines to qualify and validate manufacturing processes, analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports * Responsible for Characterization and Validation activities, including CTQ flow-down and identification of critical control points within manufacturing * Leads development of pFMEA Act as the liaison between * Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO), and to co-ordinate manufacturing activities as directed by the Manager of Operations Integration * Deploy manufacturing risk assessment and mitigations, including hands on and resourceful action plans * Responsible for part/drawing release, and accuracy of the Bill of Materials (BOM) * Review engineering product specifications, CAD data/drawing, as part of design review process to ensure they meet industry and manufacturing standards and practices * Ensure DFM, Six Sigma, and LEAN considerations are incorporated into product and process designs, including design and process 3P Provide analysis and track progress against agreed upon targets and deliverables Skills Required: * Minimum of four years of medical device manufacturing experience is required. * Technical expertise in the area of manufacturing engineering: design for manufacturability, design and process excellence methodologies including Six Sigma, LEAN experience, cGMP, EH&S guidelines, supplier development engineering and process validation. * Must be willing and able to travel up to 40% domestically, if required (take this line out for Connecticut posting) * Proven track record in design transfers to Operations and process, equipment validation experience * Understand injection molding, polymers and commonly used materials in the medical device space, such as Nitinol and implantable, with working knowledge of metals processing * Experience in developing process requirement specifications, collaborating with external parties, and working with Operations personnel to establish efficient solution systems * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills at all levels of employees including upper management, suppliers, operators and external parties. * Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills including high discretion/judgment in decision making Education: * Bachelors degree in a related field such as mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering is required.
