How will you make an impact?

The Scientist I, Manufacturing Sciences (Cell Harvest) will perform mammalian tissue culture related techniques. The output will support the production of antigens for the manufacturing of different product lines of the Antibody Detection Product family such as LAT, FlowPRA and LABScreen.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences or related field

Experience

  • Knowledge of cell culture procedures and microbiological principle of contamination

  • Able to perform and follow technical laboratory protocols

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Assist with all cell culture aspects using proper aseptic techniques feeding, freezing, thawing and harvesting

  • Conduct Flow Cytometric assays

  • Perform cell culture tests

  • Inventory laboratory reagents and materials

  • Maintain laboratory equipment

  • Prepare reagents and culturing media

  • QC of harvested cells

  • Perform cell isolation

  • Must notify immediate supervisor of any unsafe conditions and/or practices and take appropriate corrective action

  • Prepare and present production reports to management regarding daily activities

  • Perform data entry in a conscientious manner

  • Follow company and department SOPs and work instructions

  • Ensure that safe laboratory procedures and protocols are followed at all times especially in the application of universal precautions in handling of all blood and blood byproducts

  • Expected to follow all company and department standard operating procedures, PSWIs, safety rules, GMP and GDP

  • Able to interact daily with the laboratory staff, including project leaders and general laboratory staff members, in coordinating daily activities

  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive laboratory and business data

  • Able to organize and plan work in a reliable and consistent manner

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with management and staff members

  • Able to work as a cooperative member of the Antigen Production Group

  • Basic knowledge of Word and Excel

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Frequently work at laboratory workstation, low temperature freezers, and computer workstations

  • Some lifting of objects including laboratory instrumentation of 35-40 pounds

  • Able to sit for long periods of time at a laboratory bench or biological safety cabinet

  • Able to enter data and documentation into a computer

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced with GMP and GDP in a production environment

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development, production, and improvement of antibody detection IVD products. The candidate is expected to have a broad spectrum of technical working knowledge in mammalian cell culture, protein expression and characterization, flow cytometry, cell line generation, and cell banking with scientific rigor in a regulatory environment. Experiences in assay development characterizing antibody-antigen interactions are highly desired. Skills in instrumentation and software applications are additional assets. Location/Division Specific Information Canoga Park, CA / Transplant Diagnostics (TDX) How will you make an impact? The Scientist III is a key technical and scientific contributor to the development, process improvement, and production of TDX Ab Detection products. This position also has the opportunity, in collaboration with R&D groups, to explore new technologies and identify creative and robust solutions to overcome current limitations in expressing and purifying HLA or other transplant relevant target genes. This role will be under the guidance of R&D Manager and R&D Sr. Manager. What will you do? * Improve cell line generation process and cell culture workflow to increase yield and quality of recombinant antigens. * Characterize cell line and cell bank including clonality, identity, growth, expression and stability. * Establish stable cell lines including vector design and construction, transfection, stable pool generation, FACS enrichment, single cell cloning and screening, candidate clone selection, cell expansion, and cell banking. * Develop assays that characterize antigen expression and quality preferably at an earlier stage in the workflow. * Optimize cell culture based on good understanding of growth parameters, media and vessels. * Collaborate with manufacturing to support and troubleshoot antigen production. * Collaborate with other R&D groups to develop new products and improve existing products. * Initiate studies or investigations to improve current cell line generation and antigen production processes under the guidance of Cell Biology manager. * Train and guide junior staff in Cell Biology to achieve common goals. * Assist the management of lab operations and perform lab duties including instrument maintenance, calibration and qualification, ordering and maintaining lab supplies, and supporting Cell Biology functions in general. * Participate in project planning and execution, generating reports, and presenting findings in group and R&D meetings. * Perform all activities in compliance with GDP/GLP/GMP, regulatory and company safety policies.
