Manufacturing Process Engineer (Black Belt) Orangeburg, SC


Under general direction, ensures the effective functioning of the Lean Sigma Transformation business plan. Identify and eliminate waste and non-value added activities through continuous improvement in all products and services. Responsible for improving the business through the involvement and empowerment of entire workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide range of Continuous Improvement activities including but not limited to: planning, facilitating, and documenting Kaizen events, performing operating system process audits, and coordinating cross-functional resources in support of continuous improvement activities.

  • Develop relationships within the CI function and across functions to drive and inspire continuous improvement culture. Operates as the "change agent" for the business

  • Perform extensive data collection and tracking including but not limited to: WIP, labor productivity, rework, raw material inventory, overtime, to identify and address CI opportunities.

  • Ensure the company's commitment to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment through the establishment and support of Company policy and adherence to various government regulations.

  • Fully complies with the "Policy Statement on Contracting with the United States Government" in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government.

  • Perform other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 year degree (preferably engineering: Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical or Aerospace) or in lieu of a degree, 3+ years of experience in education and hands on experience.

  • Must have Lean 6-Sigma Black Belt certification

  • 3+ years related experience within a Lean operating system.

  • experience running Kaizen events (ideation to execution and follow on coaching).

  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, leadership, organizational, negotiation and communication skills.

  • Must display a high level of maturity, sound judgment, and integrity.

  • A progressive and strategic thinker, knowledgeable in manufacturing and business principles to ensure strategic business plan is met or exceeded, ensuring acceptable return on investment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within Aerospace manufacturing facilities. Familiar with industry business practices, quality systems and OEM customer processes

  • Experience implementing and sustaining a Lean operating system in the pursuit of Operational Excellence

Job Description This engineer plans and designs complex manufacturing processes in an industrial plant. The engineer has full technical responsibility for planning, organizing and conducting independent technical projects for the engineering support of manufacturing operations such as machining, metal forming, plastics processing, welding and brazing, assemblyand material handling. Responsibilities * Provide complex advisory support in the design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of manufacturing operations. * Conceive and plan projects involving major production activities, exploration of product and/or process problems, and the definition and selection of new concepts and approaches in manufacturing operations. * Conduct independent technical investigations involving the application of complex technical principles. * Evaluate test and production data, prepare technical analysis, and recommend manufacturing methods and processes required to meet design objectives on new or improved products and/or processes. * Coordinate complex technical matters relating to assembly drawing interpretation, Engineering Change Notices, rework, and manufacturing difficulties and specifications. * Coordinate with other technical support personnel. * Assign work to drafters and technicians, technical writers, engineering technicians and machine shop personnel as required. * Provide work leadership for lower-level employees. * This engineer will also have quality responsibilities for third shift. Qualifications * Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Requires at least 5 years related experience. * Understanding of the practical application of engineering science and technology. * Experience with analytical and CAD software. * Requires knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. * Requires expert knowledge of mechanical and manufacturing theory and design. * Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
