In this role, you will:

  • Provide operations team leadership and management to obtain safety, quality, asset management, productivity, housekeeping, logistics, internal controls, human resource, and environmental/energy objectives.

  • Safely produce quality fiber and services at lowest possible cost. Assets (materials, inventories, equipment, and personnel) are properly managed, maintained and developed.

  • Maintain a positive work environment maintained to promote World-Class Manufacturing objectives.

  • Emphasis is in fiber/utilities manufacturing.

  • Meet the stated business objectives while furthering the development of the Loudon Mill team culture.

Accountabilities:

  • Organize, manage, and audit manufacturing operations to support and ensure continuous improvement of the Mill (EHS) Policy Statement, quality, productivity, housekeeping, employee relations, internal controls, customer service, and asset management objectives are fully met.

  • Create/develop an environment that supports cultural development to lower decision making, increase opportunities for team member involvement, and allow department teams more control over their part of the business.

  • Coach and develop deputies to provide competent management at all levels of the manufacturing organization and provide for orderly management succession.

  • Act as the primary contact for the mill with the Professional sector business teams, staff engineer and staff research functions on issues pertaining to operations.

  • Establish long-range manpower needs and plan for the efficient utilization of employees within all manufacturing areas.

  • Analyze and coach for sound decision-making processes.

  • Direct the operating teams on human resource issues including employment; the establishment of accountabilities and performance expectations; and, the administration of performance evaluations, career development and compensations systems.

  • Support sector strategies/activities and act as a member or leader on site-wide teams and/or initiatives

  • Provide operational/technical expertise as necessary to achieve solutions to problems within the department.

  • Participate as a member of the Mill's leadership team to set direction and objectives and manage Mill performance.

  • Communicate fully with supervisors, peers, and others who have a need to know. Be informative, communicating in a way that is timely, complete, accurate, and in a responsive manner.

  • Provide leadership to ensure your organization attracts, develops, and retains the best people and fosters an environment which motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.

  • Provide leadership for conception and implementation of long-term strategies for asset improvement and the mill organizational development.

  • Ensure continued safe work practices of self and others by complying with company and governmental regulations. Maintain good housekeeping standards while eliminating and preventing losses of all types (injuries, illnesses, process loss, property damage).

  • Comply with the standards and requirements of the Loudon Mill EHS Management System.

  • Ensure that all activities support Loudon and Sector policies and regulations.

  • Identify all aspects and hazards in areas of accountability and ensure they are managed to acceptable levels of risk.

  • Report and investigate to the Loudon standard all substandard acts and conditions.

  • Either through ownership of a standard or element or participation in an EHS team, continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the Loudon EHS System setting objectives to ensure we close the gaps to standard.

Key Customers:

  • Mill management, sector management, operations, maintenance, and resource teams.

Scope:

  • Incumbent reports to the Mill Manager and functions as Operations Team Manager for the fiber/utilities manufacturing.

  • The incumbent's deputies are the four operations teams, one maintenance team, Process Specialists, Asset Reliability Partners, and engineering resources.

  • The incumbent is responsible for management of all assets and leads a multi-functional work team and support resources that have the responsibility to maintain facility operations on a rotating shift and to meet facility objectives.

  • The incumbent has the additional responsibility for development and improvement of asset productivity, materials management, safety, productivity and grade costs, reliability of equipment, and human resource development.

  • Department results have a major impact on mill performance.

Dimensions:

  • Operating Budget: $50 - 100MM
  • Assets: $150 - 220MM
  • Direct Deputies: 81 exempt and non-exempt production

To succeed in this role, you will need the following qualifications:

  • This position requires bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing operations or related areas at the functional level and a working knowledge of multi-functional issues.

  • The incumbent has a thorough understanding of staff activities and multi-site and/or staff experience.

  • Demonstrated capability of superior performance in a team environment is essential.

  • Previous experience at the Team Manager level is required.
