Staff Hunter is recruiting a Manufacturing Operational Excellence Manager for a client in Southern Maine.

Position Summary

The Manufacturing Operational Excellence Manager is a highly visible, hands-on leader responsible for developing and implementing solutions for manufacturing and manufacturing engineering projects. This position will perform/lead Operational Excellence activities to achieve and enhance the designed output of our production system, per value stream. This position will lead continuous improvement efforts which in turn will yield high results through all departments.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Operational Excellence Manager:

Provide project management oversight to ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and budget.
Develop and incorporate key operational benchmarks into work activities, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and root-cause analysis techniques to drive improvements and efficiencies.
Lead problem-solving teams and Kaizen events to improve operational performance
Design and conduct experiments related to improving processes to achieve yield and throughput for more efficient and effective production, identify equipment and process flow bottlenecks.
Support an operating culture that promotes involvement, communication, accountability, and passion for excellence.
Coach and practice strong and disciplined LEAN methodology and management approach to enable focus on process improvement and waste elimination.
Manage Manufacturing/Process Engineer and Operational Excellence activities; lead, motivate, coach/mentor and engage the team to drive and maximize performance.
Develop talent for future leadership
Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products
Partner with manufacturing and engineering areas to conduct technical training and introduce new processes.
Participate in engineering design reviews
Assign, delegate and assist in providing operational excellence activities or projects to engineers, manufacturing, and others throughout the company
Ensure the OPEX methodology is utilized to drive sustainable manufacturing and business process improvements that optimize capacity, reduce lead-time, minimize inventories, maximize fill-rates, process flow, and productivity.
Lead facility layout and design projects with Engineering and Manufacturing teams. This includes creating the design, updating drawings, process flow and Value Stream Maps that clarify and/or resolve operational issues.
Provide engineering expertise to identify and lead value improvements and waste elimination projects for the manufacturing and overhead areas that drive plant and company performance improvements while championing the development and advancement of the lean culture within the organization.
Plan work schedules, expenditures, attend meetings, and prepare monthly reports as required, ensuring effective communication of ideas, information, and issues to appropriate stakeholders.
Responsible for leading projects of varied scope, which include overseeing the department personnel in the implementation of new or modified equipment, products or processes.
Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, overproduction, over-processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.
Perform other duties as required
Minimum Requirements of the Manufacturing Operational Excellence Manager:

BS Degree in engineering preferred
Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment
Proven leadership experience
Experience in sheet metal fabrication a plus
Experience training and coaching a formal problem-solving methodology
Experience with Manufacturing Engineering and Process Improvements
Demonstrated experience with lean strategies
Adaptable to change
Able to manage competing priorities
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent partnership, collaboration, communication skills, facilitation skills
Ability to make critical decisions
Ability to effectively lead and manage change.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CAM
