Position Overview

Nevados is seeking an experienced NPI Manufacturing Engineer to join the Mechanical Engineering department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing of sheet metal and injection molded components, with experience in collaborating with Contract Manufacturers (CMs), conducting DFM (Design for Manufacturability) reviews, performing 8D process root cause analysis, and using PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems. This role will ensure the successful introduction of new solar tracker products, optimizing manufacturing processes, and maintaining high-quality standards.

We are in the Bay Area and require local candidates to commute to the Oakland office as needed. Additionally, field visits to sites across the US may be required. This is a hybrid role with the opportunity to work from home when testing or meetings allow.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including design engineering, supply chain, quality assurance, and Contract Manufacturers to facilitate seamless NPI process.

  • Lead DFM reviews for new product designs, assessing manufacturability, and providing recommendations for optimization, particularly for sheet metal parts, injection molded parts, and cast parts.

  • Utilize SolidWorks and PLM software to manage product data, including CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and engineering change orders (ECOs).

  • Maintain a field issue dashboard and perform thorough root cause analysis using the 8D process methodology to identify and address manufacturing-related field issues and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

  • Identify gaps in testing and coordinate testing with design engineering and test engineering teams.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and CMs to ensure the timely procurement of components and address any supply chain challenges.

  • Create and maintain documentation including internal work instructions, process specifications, and manufacturing guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing/NPI or similar engineering roles

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and experience with PLM systems for managing product data.

  • Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication (stamping, roll forming, welding), injection molding, and casting processes.

  • Proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies, particularly 8D process, to address manufacturing-related field issues effectively.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions.

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly and concisely.

  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% including to project sites and manufacturing sites.

$80,000 - $170,000 a year

Actual base salary may vary depending on job-related factors, which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
