In conjunction with the Shipping Department, assist in preparation of customer orders to ensure timely shipment. Responsible for all tumbling processes on parts for the removal of burrs, rust, etc.

Requirements

  • Ensures all parts being tumbled are processed in the required amount of time as specified, for the removal of burrs, rust, etc. Make sure parts not needing to be tumbled are oiled in a timely manner for prevention of rust. Maintain inventory of media, soap and oil to be used in tumbling processes. Remains in daily contact with the shipping clerk for determination of which parts need to be completed first to satisfy any customer needs.
  • Receive containers from the Quality Department identifying parts requiring sub-contract processes. Stores parts in appropriate areas. Notifies shipping of any parts ready to be sent out for finishing. Assist in coordination of freight or other shipping arrangements and scheduling as assigned. Receives all finished parts and products following final inspection. Counts, weighs and packages these for shipment to customer for immediate shipments. Packages all finished products not scheduled for shipment for storage in the inventory area. Stores all in an organized manner.
  • Counts or weighs products accurately to ensure correct quantities are packaged. Assembles cardboard boxes as necessary for packaging of parts. Packages parts in boxes or other containers, ensuring packaging are secure.
  • Assists in accurate labeling of packages to be shipped. Marks all boxes of products to be shelved in inventory area with necessary information including part numbers, job numbers and quantity. Examines and/or weighs all packages to ensure labeling is accurate and quantity of contents is accurate for customer orders.
  • Manually or with the use of a forklift, move containers of parts to the tumbling area. Maintains organization of parts through efficient movement and storage of these in designated areas. Following final inspection, moves parts from the Quality Department to Shipping. Moves in-process products from the production area to Shipping or other designated areas.
  • Assists in loading and unloading of trucks as necessary, manually or with the use of the forklift.
  • Complete necessary records related to tumbling processes including quantity of parts tumbled, number of parts packaged, part numbers, job numbers, shelf inventory (media, soap and oil), quantity shipped, etc., as requested. Completes necessary records of materials, in-process or finished products, products shipped or received as directed.
  • Periodically counts shelf inventory on hand. Maintains accurate records of these counts. Alerts the production supervisor to any recognized shortages for immediate or future customer.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner to reduce hazards. Adheres to all company and OSHA specified safety standards in job performance. Exercises caution in operation of forklift truck while maintaining a current forklift certificate at all times. Wears safety glasses at all times. Uses other protective wear including hearing protection, gloves, etc., as appropriate
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area to meet company specified housekeeping standards. Moves, stores and holds all containers of parts in an organized manner in the shipping/receiving areas, loading dock areas and inventory storage areas.
  • Maintains effective levels of productivity at all time. Ensures use of time and work completed meet company production standards. Performs all duties efficiently. Plan activities by thoroughly thinking through all necessary steps to reduce lost time to error or inefficiency.
  • Seeks to reduce costs in operation through efficient use of materials and supplies, efficient use of the time and effective prioritizing of tasks to be done. Seeks to reduce costs of waste and loss due to carelessness in activities. Ensures forklift is well maintained prior to operation, to prevent damage in operation.
  • Ensures all parts or products have been inspected prior to packaging and shipment. Ensures quality tags for final inspection are present prior to shipment. Ensures material specifications are present prior to shipment of products, as required. Performs visual inspection on all in-process or completed parts ready for shipment. Alerts quality control to any parts where discrepancies may be suspected.
  • Suggest improvements in methods and procedures for tumbling, packaging, movement of materials, etc. Suggest methods for increasing productivity and efficiency in day-today tasks as recognized.
  • Other duties as needed/assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous forklift certification required. Will recertify during training period.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Overtime will be required from time to time.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Able to complete forms neatly and accurately.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to safely tolerate heat in the summer and cold in the winter.
  • The noise level in the environment is usually loud.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; read and identify numbers. The employee is regularly required to apply sound reasoning and logic performing daily tasks.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
