The incumbent will lead manufacturing engineering activities to achieve cost reduction and new product launch objectives on time and within budget for water heater component manufacturing site. This person will also work closely with operations and maintenance to define capital needs to replace rebuild or automate equipment/processes.
SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES (List in order of importance)
Develop 3 year capital plan to eliminate equipment capacity constraints preventing attainment of planned volume on defined shift schedule.
Rigorous project management leadership from concept to implementation.
Scope projects with input from cross-functional stake holders.
Define current state and criteria for successful conclusion of projects (documented parameter, methods, spare parts, preventative maintenance and operator training).
Establish consistent milestone tracking methods.
Host cross functional reviews with reports, peers and leadership.
Act as manufacturing partner in launch of new products that meet design criteria every time.
Lead technical support team for existing manufacturing equipment/processes including but not limited to: molding, extruding, welding, plating, annealing, bending, ovens and robotics.
Along with operation and maintenance, assure process parameters, pm and operational methods are optimized.
Review, analyze and interpret continuous improvement operational results, identify financial and operational issues that may affect the business and make recommendations for improvement.
Ensure documented work procedures are established, understood and followed.
Review and perform analysis on labor reporting and costs, materials cost, manufacturing overhead and inventory levels.
Recruit, manage and develop salary reports for manufacturing engineering.
Advise plant leadership team on business risks and opportunities and provide recommendations.
Support and/or lead strategic plant and company initiatives and special projects.
Champion and model the A.O. Smith Guiding Principles, Code of Business Ethics and Values.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Experience managing a group of professional engineers.
Prior experience with lean
Expertise in manufacturing to include project management, engineering, maintenance, quality, lean environment and employee relations.
Strong analytic skills, with ability to clearly link financial results to operational performance drivers.
Demonstrated leadership as part of a cross-functional management team.
Proven ability to manage and develop reports.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Some experience.in automation (ie: robotics, scoping, working vendors)
High level of proficiency in PC spreadsheets, CAD/SolidWorks and ERP/MRP systems.
