Who will you be working with?

Wabtec is a leading global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions, and value-added services. Our team is focused on continually improving our best-in-class production capabilities. Here you'll interact daily with team members during the problem resolution process and will partner with other key stakeholders to support our internal customers and their responsibilities.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Global Operations Equipment group, the Manufacturing Engineer works to sustain continual improvement with business processes using lean manufacturing and other improvement techniques. As a CI Leader, you will collect data, analyze outputs, and provide recommendations for action to improve safety, quality, and increase overall effectiveness of business processes. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, drive process adherence, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and can affect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Education/Work Experience Requirements

  • Minimum five to seven current years' experience in a manufacturing industry.

  • Bachelor's degree or Technical degree preferred (Continuous Improvement Engineer or equivalent discipline).

  • Knowledge of lean process techniques preferred.

  • Six sigma training preferred

  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.

  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.

  • Basic shop math skills in all units of measure, along with ability to read and use gauges and measuring instruments.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while having a high degree of attention to details.

  • Knowledge of production/materials control system.

  • Understanding of continuous improvement, lean manufacturing concepts and production schedules preferred.

  • Strong organization skills.

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence, motive, coach, and drive accountability.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite

What will your typical day look like?

  • Develops, observes, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods and processes to reduce costs.

  • Manage various cost accounts and projects associated with expense reductions.

  • Review and analysis of space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.

  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

  • Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements process changes and improvements.

What about the physical demands of the job?

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long durations of time and be mobile throughout the workday. Employee must be able to effectively communicate (talk and hear), and use hands and fingers to handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a computer, printer, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc. Must be able to move or carry objects or materials.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
