Job Overview

TE Connectivity's wire and cable facility in Culpeper VA is currently seeking a highly motivated engineer to sustain and improve our manufacturing processes as well as manage machine upgrades and new machine installations. These processes include steel wire drawing, extrusion, cable assembly and cable armoring.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in safety programs. Implement solutions initiated by these activities to resolve or prevent safety issues.

  • Lead process development projects in the design, build, conditioning and installation of manufacturing equipment.

  • Evaluate new product designs as well as changes to existing products to ensure they can be produced to meet specifications safely and efficiently. Recommend and provide cost estimates for process changes when current capabilities are lacking.

  • Estimate tooling and process costs and manage project budgets

  • Utilize product nonconformance and scrap data to drive process improvements through enhanced procedures, error-proofing and the integration of new technology.

  • Create and update work instructions and visual standards, working closely with production supervisors/operators to solicit support and team engagement.

  • Work with Global Engineering teams in the sharing of best practices.

  • Support Lean Manufacturing and Visual Management initiatives

What your background should look like:

  • Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree with 5+ years of experience in manufacturing is highly preferred. Open to candidates with less experience as well.

  • Experience with wire and cable manufacturing is preferred.Experience with the steel wire drawing process is desired

  • Competency with computer drawing software (CAD)

  • Must be able to work in a hands-on environment, interacting closely with manufacturing operators and supervision as well as the maintenance crews.

  • Sound project management skills.

  • Proficient in MS Office Software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access.

  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools. A Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is valuable.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic global environment with multiple changing priorities.

This position requires access to information which is subject to stringent controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Culpeper, VA facility. The Manufacturing Engineer performs professional manufacturing engineering assignments requiring full use and application of standard manufacturing principles, theories, concepts and techniques. The successful individual will be responsible for providing manufacturing engineering support for production solid rocket motor programs through the application of established manufacturing engineering procedures. Assist in developing and implementing processing improvements. Assignments may involve supporting experimental investigations, feasibility studies and assisting in the planning of resources to support production requirements. This position can be filled at this level or one level higher. Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each) Working under general supervision and following established policies, 40% Working under the direction of more senior Manufacturing Engineering staff and with guidance from Project Engineering, Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) representatives, assist in the preparation and maintenance of detailed manufacturing instructions by following established manufacturing and SH&E procedures, including repair/rework instructions within a closed-loop nonconformance system. 20% Under the guidance of more senior staff, perform technical oversight and troubleshooting of complex operations involved in assembly of electrical and mechanical components. 15% Assist in analysis and development of practical solutions to specific manufacturing problems utilizing analytical skills and sound manufacturing engineering techniques. Accurately report problems, solutions, and results in concise written and oral communications. 15% Assist with the design of tooling for fabrication and assembly processes. Recommend changes in design to facilitate cost effective fabrication. Assist in the preparation of detailed processing plans and process flow diagrams. 10% Assist in preparing for and participate in process reviews. Participate in design reviews. Interface with internal/external customers. Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (prefer one of the following majors: Aerospace, Chemical, Manufacturing or Mechanical) and 2 years of directly related experience (preferably as an associate quality or manufacturing engineer) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. * Demonstrated ability in manufacturing, the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and interpret and evaluate analytical and experimental data. * Must be able to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with all levels of personnel both internal and external to the company. * Ability to work in a team environment will be expected. * Experience working with energetic materials is preferred. * Experience with Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma Manufacturing Methodologies, and Digital Factory are preferred. * Experience with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) is expected. Experience with Oracle is preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
