MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (SATELLITES/COMPONENTS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform hands-on engineering and liaison role between the design teams and production organization as SpaceX works to iterate on the design and ramp into the manufacturing phase

  • Responsible for the manufacturability and introduction into high-rate manufacturing environment

  • Contribute to design reviews acting as an expert in design for manufacturability, design for testability, yield improvements, supplier capabilities assessments, quality control, etc.

  • Primary point of contact for production non-conforming product, troubleshooting, root cause, failure investigations and corrective actions

  • Lead the initial supply chain development for electro-mechanical assembly components

  • Tooling design and validation

  • Prepare engineering documentation necessary for the transition from development to production including assembly procedures, test procedures, standard operating procedures, schematic diagrams, bills of materials, suitable alternate parts lists and mechanical drawings

  • Update designs when necessary in response to manufacturing issues, parts obsolescence, and system requirement changes

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts of established product

  • Perform structured root cause analysis of in-process failures

  • Perform training of production personnel and leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or manufacturing engineering
  • 3 years of professional experience in design and/or production of mechanical or electronics hardware systems
  • 1 year of experience implementing Design for Manufacture and Design for Test

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to create and deliver presentations for design and manufacturing readiness reviews

  • Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced iterative design environments

  • Experience modeling with 3D CAD software such as: NX/Unigraphics, Catia, Solidworks

  • Working proficiency with DFMEA and PFMEA methodology and implementation

  • SPC knowledge and experience applying statistical methods to track process capability.

  • Experience with PCB, PCBA and electromechanical assembly processes

  • Basic competency with SQL databases

  • Demonstrated experience designing tooling in a manufacturing environment

  • Hands-on engineer with a passion for continuous improvement and building the best hardware

  • Capable of solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team

  • Experience in a fast-paced, iterative design environments within the consumer electronics, mobile handset, medical devices, aerospace, marine or automotive industries.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position may require working extended hours and weekends

  • Some travel to suppliers required - up to 20%

VIEW JOBS 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-09T00:00 The Manufacturing Engineer at Facebook Reality Labs will be an integral member of the core manufacturing team that bridges the space between 1-off Product Engineering builds and the formal NPI sequence of builds (EV, DV, PV, MP). This position will have the opportunity to influence product design, own a substantial aspect of the build line, and influence process with line-of-sight to mass production. The ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer, leader, and manager who has successfully led teams through the development and execution of beginning-to-end manufacturing processes in support of new electro-optical products, with proven record of quality output, process development, and team building. They are detail-orientated with robust communication skills and comfortable working in a highly visible and highly hands-on problem-solving environment. The candidate will also have a strong ability to communicate to all levels of an organization – from management and higher-level strategy planning to the technicians and leads on a manufacturing floor. With broad product realization experience, the candidate will have a passion in one or more of the following topic areas: quality, test, operations, supply chain, project management, DFX, process development. RESPONSIBILITIES * Work with the hardware engineering team to understand product design intent, early identification of beyond-COTS assembly process, and be the driver of manufacturing systems and process integration into a small-scale manufacturing line, with line of sight to high volume production quantities. Leverage and manage contract design and manufacturing resources to achieve organizational impact. Support Failure Analysis, Corrective Action implementation plan, and yield bridge to mass production. Drive the daily manufacturing activities and work with Manufacturing Engineers to resolve line issues and implement corrective actions. Leads and informs on problem solving, root cause analysis, and other continuous improvement initiatives, first by setting the example and establishing process, and then by ownership over the area. Support GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) activities and a disciplined approach to engineering change control and configuration management. Provide technical support for incoming inspection activities and lot release testing activities. Evaluate prospective vendors (CM, Supply Chain) for process and quality capability based on project needs. Partner with Engineering to define product manufacturing strategy plans based on PRD. Ability and willingness to travel: up to 25% domestic travel and up to 10% to global locations at later specified project life-cycle periods. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or equivalent manufacturing engineering experience. 5+ years of experience in a combination of electro-optical device engineering, precision manufacturing in a development environment, and building NPI manufacturing lines. Experience identifying operational and manufacturing technology risks, developing plans to mitigate and drive issues to closure. Experience explaining technical problems with data and analysis and provide feedback and solutions. Experience coaching, mentoring, and training others. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Master of Science in Engineering. 10+ years of experience in a combination of electro-optical device engineering, precision manufacturing in a development environment, and building NPI manufacturing lines. Experience implementing manufacturing execution systems with management dashboard and production dashboards, or implemented manufacturing quality systems from components through final acceptance test and field failures. Experience with one of the following technologies: Camera, Display, Precision Optics and Coatings. Has successfully implemented manufacturing solutions (quality, build, test) for an optic or sensor that was particularly complex or sensitive, with proven results.
