External Description:JOB SUMMARY
This position is part of the Hardware Engineering Team responsible for the development and manufacturing of gauges and infotainment displays for Polaris sport vehicles, OEM products, and Trail Tech branded aftermarket products. The person in this position is responsible for establishing and implementing cost efficient and reliable methods for production. For planning and coordinating the activities necessary to meet production demand for products within safety, quality and cost standards. They will create standard practices and process that will be shared across the product lines, and will be responsible for ensuring the proper training and knowledge is available at each facility, prior to product launch. They will work with cross-discipline development engineering teams to insure manufacturability of new designs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand key tools and technology of operation, including manufacturing tools and equipment, automation/robotics, database and enterprise software, statistical analysis tools, and CAD/design tools.
Defines tools, fixtures, and equipment used in the manufacturing process. Coordinates with tool designers to specify or procure new tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
Assists in development of manufacturing equipment.
Troubleshoot/Triage manufacturing issues. Develop root cause and implement corrective action for issues impacting product cost, quality and/or delivery.
Identify, implement, and validate capital equipment, tooling, and processes required to successfully launch new products meeting Polaris standards.
Develops and updates process documentation and procedure instruction.
Conducts direct labor studies using acceptable engineering practices and establishes standards on operations, set up and work station layout.
Analyzes and evaluates manufacturing methods and standards. Provides solution to problems that adversely affect operator safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
Identifies areas of unnecessary cost. Researches methods and procedures for cost reduction, work cell development and material flow improvement.
Drive quality and safety into product launches through the use of PFMEA and DFA/M.
Reviews preliminary designs, making recommendations to reduce costs and improve manufacturing and quality on new or existing parts.
Reviews and evaluates cost pertaining to make vs. buy decisions and new product development.
Support the development and launch of new products.
Research new process/manufacturing technology and coordinate procurement and implementation into manufacturing.
Support external manufacturing operations, with focus on quality, schedule attainment, cost and delivery.
Process purchase requisitions and records as required.
Effectively coordinate tasks across multiple projects.
Effective communication skills with all levels of production & management.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar field.
Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, with 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or related.
Experience in the design of manufacturing automation, assembly tooling, and PLC programming.
Strong process orientation with general understanding of SPC and Lean.
Skilled in project/task management - plan, develop and execute
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to establish collaborative working relationships cross-functionally and interface with all levels of the organization both internally and externally.
Ability, and demonstrated success, working in a team based environment.
Ability to establish clear, measurable goals and deliver on commitments.
