We currently seek a Manufacturing Engineer to join our division located in Avon, CT, and help support our continued business growth.

As a member of the Assembly Engineering team, the primary responsibility is to improve, develop, and expand manufacturing capabilities and capacity.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Process & product development, to include:

  • Early prototype/pilot through volume scale up.

  • Continuous improvement of exiting.

  • Always guided by considerations for Safety, Quality, and efficiency.

  • Define manufacturing area layouts, expansion footprints and lead efforts to optimize and reduce required floor space, incorporating lean manufacturing principles.

  • Cost reduction through performing time studies to identify cost baselines, bottlenecks, and ultimately increase throughput. Reduce manufacturing costs and lead times through efficiency improvement, cycle-time reduction, scrap reduction, waste reduction, etc.

  • Fixture/tool design, validation, and implementation to manufacturing.

  • Capital equipment specification, validation, and transfer to manufacture.

  • PFMEA and control plans.

  • Root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action implementation.

  • Creation, review, and revision of procedures and work instructions

  • Support manufacturing supervision with training of technicians.

  • Cost estimation of products, creation of BOM, Routing, and Item Master to support new part numbers and update of existing part numbers.

  • Provide technical support to internal organizations as well as external customers, including direct interaction with customers to clarify and better understand their needs and expectations.

  • Work cross-functionally and cross-organizationally. OFS, along with our parent company Furukawa Electric, is a learning organization with many global locations and business units. We strive to collaborate and leverage all those resources to deliver the best solutions to our customers.

  • Participate as needed as member of a team in support of strategic programs.

  • Develop estimates of required resources, time, and budget. Act in an engineering project leader capacity to facilitate project success.

  • Perform process audits with opportunities to participate through extended rotations as a 6S Layered Auditor in areas outside of the Assembly Value Stream.

  • May be asked to direct Engineering Technicians and Assemblers to support engineering programs.

  • May assume duties of internal Quality auditor in support of the overall organization's Quality Management System.

Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • 5 years' experience in a similar technical role, n in a manufacturing environment.

  • Quality systems knowledge (minimum of ISO 9001). Background in Medical Device Manufacturing and Aerospace Quality System requirements (e.g. ISO 13485, AS9100) desired.

  • Solid working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles and Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Must have strong skills in data analysis, statistics, and data-based decision making.

  • Working knowledge of fiber optics and related applications desired.

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing preferred.
