Job Description

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, results-oriented, demonstrate team leadership, and understand team dynamics. This position will report directly to VP of Operations and will manage the manufacturing engineering team as well as perform engineering tasks.

Oversees the development and implementation of manufacturing processes such as design layout on work cells, assembly equipment and areas as needed to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency. Review, evaluates and implements engineering changes and specification requirement. Ensure that project/ departments milestones goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Drive cost reduction projects to meet requirements of Value Engineering initiatives increase productivity, reduce lead-time, improve quality, and cost savings. Supports LEAN culture focusing on standardization, quality, improved performance and increased throughput.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Partners with cross functional leaders to set strategic vision for the business.

  • Provides guidance and training to staff, assists team in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high-quality staff.

  • Guarantee all requirements for gates deliverables are as per Product Lifecycle Process (PLP) on new product launch.

  • Provides thorough instructions/training for succesfull implementation of process changes.

  • Supports Technology and Product Management on development activities.

  • Develops and drives execution of departmental budgets and objectives.

  • Leads or represents function in periodic business metric reviews.

  • Determines appropriate staff levels, schedules, and resources.

  • Works with other managers to understand priorities and plans resources and time allocation accordingly.

  • Establishes and influences cross-functional relationships to identify and resolve production/engineering issues ensuring root cause is understood and addressed.

  • Owns layout design, including storage areas and work cell/assembly areas

  • Perform material flow analysis.

  • Create and maintain manufacturing job element sheets, test procedures, work instructions, and master process documents.

  • Develop process and test protocols for automated equipment and manual processes.

  • Oversees and assesses existing processes and workflows.

  • Leads Designing/Validation manufacturing fixtures/equipment as required.

  • Establish and maintain routings, control BOM changes, and maintain BOM configuration dates.

  • Time studies.

  • Champion LEAN culture and continuous improvement initiatives. Facilitates and leads CI events to ensure that improvements are captured, implemented and sustained.

  • Drive cost reduction projects to meet requirements of Value Engineering initiatives. (increase productivity, reduce lead-time, improve quality, and cost savings).

  • Perform validation testing on new products and changes to existing products.

  • Complies with and ensures department compliance with all Company, policies and procedures.

  • Provides Leadership, Training and Mentoring to peers.

The Individual

Education/Training:

  • BS Engineering or degree in a similar field of study
  • MBA is a plus

Experience:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience, preferably in manufacturing / operations - ideally with extensive experience on layout improvement/changes, processes optimization/workflows/documentation.

  • 5+ years of people leadership experience across a highly matrixed organization.

  • Experience supporting new product launches

  • Project management experience

  • Proven experience supporting / leading process development

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate within a global manufacturing environment

  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and ability to establish credibility

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, and successfully manage multiple projects, priorities, and responsibilities

Work Environment:

  • The individual's primary workplace is located in the Edgewood production facility, there are no exposures to unusual elements

  • The individual is chartered to work closely with unionized production associates which necessitates being mindful of the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement - including respecting Union work

Supervises:

8 direct reports

Background:

This position requires access to ITAR, EAR, and Department of State or Department of Commerce controlled information and routine access to a cleared facility. Candidate must be able to successfully completed a federal background investigation.
