Our client, a leading developer of custom lasers for applications like biomedical instrumentation and holography, is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in San Diego to enhance their production processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, evaluate, and document efficient manufacturing methods based on engineering specifications.
- Establish key production metrics (time, staffing, costs) to support management in decision-making regarding capacity and productivity.
- Ensure accuracy in all Bills of Materials (BOM) and process routings.
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure products are designed for efficient production.
- Uphold health and safety standards while promoting a culture of high ethical conduct and integrity.
- Drive initiatives to reduce costs, train staff on new procedures, and continuously improve process capabilities.
- Analyze product failure data to recommend process or design improvements.
- Manage the disposition of non-conforming materials and communicate with vendors to ensure the specifications and procurement of necessary components.
- Optimize the layout of workforce, workspace, and equipment for maximum efficiency.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use statistical methods to anticipate manufacturing needs and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and implement Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) for all processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to processes or products.
- Facilitate the smooth transition of new products from design to production.
CROSS-TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- Gain proficiency in Quality and Product Engineering to understand laser design intricacies.
- Acquire skills in Lab View and BAAN/ERP systems through collaboration with the MIS Department.
EQUIPMENT UTILIZED:
- Operate personal computers, various electronic testing devices, and typical office equipment.
- Use safety equipment such as eye protection and clean room gowns as required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, complemented by at least 4 years experience in manufacturing engineering with preference for electronics or semiconductor or related industries
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to forecast manufacturing needs and identify process optimizations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead new product introductions from design to production.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with vendors to achieve manufacturing goals.
