Summary of Position
We have an immediate opening for a Manufacturing Engineer at our Elgin, IL facility. This role assists in determining necessary equipment and process design for lean manufacturing of Elgin products. Leads manufacturing engineering techs in the design, implementation and support of existing and future manufacturing cells and lines. Optimizes the utilization of equipment and floor space while maintaining the fit, form, function and quality standards of Elgin products.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Support the manufacturing of components and products by determining manufacturing equipment and processes to be utilized. Generate part routings for Elgin products without incurring unnecessary cost to the product.
Oversee responsibilities of Tool Room as it relates to the manufacturing operation. This involves design (of new tooling) and refurbishing of existing tooling as needed. Develop and keep measures to document performance.
Utilize lean principles to implement change as a leader, participant, and initiator. Lead process improvement projects to support operations.
Suggest and work with Design Engineering to make improvements in the design of products to reduce cost, improve quality and manufacturability.
Investigate and make recommendations on the procurement of equipment to improve the manufacture of Elgin products.
Serve as lead manufacturing engineer for assigned product group. Providing proper documentation, training and communication of product /process related information to line supervision and shop personnel.
Process Engineering Change Notices in a timely manner and communicate those changes to the appropriate shop personnel.
Improve safety in manufacturing by analyzing current and proposed manufacturing processes looking to reduce material handling and improve the ergonomics.
Process employee action items, non-conforming material and Corrective Action Requests in a timely manner.
Provide assistance to other departments when needed by supplying labor and material costs for special equipment.
Follow and comply with all safety and personal protective equipment requirements.
Perform other duties, assignments and special projects that may be required from time to time.

BS in Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Industrial Engineering Technology required.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in manufacturing required.
Preference will be given to candidates with direct supervision experience.
Experience and knowledge of manufacturing processes that include laser cutting, forming, welding and machining required.
Experience in a production environment required; Line balancing and facility layout high desired.
Demonstrated project management skills with results in achieving targeted deliverables in product performance, cost and schedule.
Prior pull systems or cellular manufacturing experience is preferred.
Must posses and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be PC literate with daily working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.
Experience in using AutoCAD required. Experience with JD Edwards is a plus.
