We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our New England Innovation Center (NEIC) team located in the Greater Boston Area.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define, maintain, and support manufacturing processes utilized in the manufacture of Small Unmanned Air Vehicles.

  • Implement Lean Manufacturing principles and apply Six Sigma methodology to achieve continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and lead-time.

  • Generate Value Stream Maps to reduce cycle time, waste, variation, and low production yields

  • Identify opportunities for Kaizen events.

  • Create Manufacturing Strategies and capacity models for new and current products, including estimation and maintenance of capital requisitions

  • Generate new and review existing work instructions, assembly procedures and supporting documentation controlling the manufacturing process.

  • Generate ECRs and ECOs required for process/product improvement

  • Cost estimating of new tooling and fixtures required to support production floor

  • Generate product line flowcharts and production floor layouts

  • Lead Make/Buy analysis on assemblies with a cross-functional team.

  • Create or review routers, Outside Processing and ERP related functions (AV uses Oracle)

  • Perform Design for Manufacturing, cost, and reliability analysis on new products with the design engineering team

  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure receipt of conforming parts and assemblies

  • Create and manage equipment specifications, development, and qualification for assembly and test equipment

  • Project management of project tasks for self and others

  • Occasional travel to supplier sites

Required Qualifications and Background :

  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident

  • 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, Test Engineering or similar field in Aerospace, Automotive, or Commercial industries

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical or similar field or equivalent experience as an Engineer in these fields required

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma Methodology in a leadership role is required

  • Experience with electro-mechanical manufacturing, drawings, procedures and Bill of Materials is required

  • Specific experience with sheet metal fabrication, plastics, composite layups, printed circuit board assembly, mechanical assembly, calibration and testing processes is desired

  • Organization/planning, communication (oral and written), time management, conflict management, ability to manage stress, deadlines and work independently

  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point , Access, Project), MiniTab , Oracle, Agile, and CAD programs (SolidWorks is preferred)

Program members work in manufacturing engineering assignments to gain experience through a mix of on-the-job training and classroom education to provide a foundation of functional and leadership skills. Two, 18-month rotations will provide opportunities for exposure to various technical disciplines and responsibilities. Essential Responsibilities:As a manufacturing engineer / specialist in this program, specific responsibilities will vary based on location and may include the following: Utilize CAD software to design tools and fixtures for various manufacturing processes Edit existing CNC machine programs using CAM software and craft new programs for new product introduction Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing skills and interpret blueprints to facilitate component and assembly process planning Develop process improvements with multi-functional teams to reduce manufacturing costs, increase production, and raise part quality Collect and interpret data from manufacturing processes to identify and support process improvement activities Support engine assembly and test sites in manufacturing processes like rotor stack, balance, torque, and grind Develop and maintain conventional machining methods such as Turning, Milling, Grinding, and Broaching. Develop and support non-conventional machining systems such as Electric Discharge (EDM), Laser, Electro-chemical (ECM), and Abrasive Flow (AFM) Maintain and develop welding & joining techniques such as Electron Beam, Laser, Gas Tungsten Arc, and Brazing Learn and apply Lean/Six Sigma tools to identify process waste and to support decision-making processes Introduce robotic and automation projects in shop floor environments to reduce human risk factors Implement software and digital solutions to assist manufacturing and assembly solutions Qualifications/Requirements:Completion (or nearing completion, to be completed before time of employment) of a full time and accredited 2 year or 4 year degreed program in one of the following: Mechanical Engineering Technology Electrical Engineering Technology Manufacturing Engineering Technology Aviation Engineering Technology or related field Minimum 3.0 GPA without rounding OR a minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing related role Eligibility Requirements This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.
