Role Summary/Purpose

General responsibility for all process engineering associated with the production of various components and sub-assemblies. Chairperson for assembly and test reviews. Technical interface within IOS and customers for manufacturing. Provide guidance to Technicians and Engineering regarding new and existing manufacturing processes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Update electro-optical assembly and test procedures on existing production processes.

  • Prepare floor and equipment layouts to promote an efficient flow of material through various fabrication, assembly, and test operations.

  • MRB member for material disposition.

  • Work directly with suppliers to resolve manufacturing issues.

  • Suggest and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time, reduce schedule, and maintain quality.

  • Execute and assist with the creation of production schedules to meet program needs.

  • Provide input to design engineering for tools and fixtures required for production.

  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance requirements for manufacturing equipment.

  • Maintain build documentation and train operators to new processes.

  • Provide customer support as needed.

  • Support manufacturing process and provide direction using visual management.

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • BSME and 5-8 years of related manufacturing engineering experience.

  • Breadth of background in machining, metal fabrication, plating, polishing, adhesives, bonding, e/m assembly operations and manufacturing flow.

  • Background in low rate precision electro-optical assembly operations ideal.

  • Prior experience from Defense/Aerospace industry preferred.

  • Experience with environmental testing a plus.

  • Prior training or experience with J-STD-001E workmanship standard a plus.

  • Prior Lean Six Sigma training required. Greenbelt training and certification required as a minimum.

  • Strong multidiscipline communication skills.

Qualifications: Preferred: * Coating and/or membrane manufacturing experience preferred. * Technical curiosity. * Desire to drive improvements. Strong interpersonal skills, strategic business perspective, system thinking capability and analytical/problem solving skills. * Results oriented with the capability of balancing multiple tasks and priorities.
