Summary:

Provides technical manufacturing liaison required for the production of high quality products from the design phase through all phases of production. Liaison between the Program Design, Procurement, Assembly, and Quality Departments to promote an efficient and well-organized manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Attends design reviews and provides product evaluations to insure the product design lends itself to practical, economical manufacturing techniques.

  • Assists in reviewing engineering design drawings prior to "Production Release" for product and compatibility with "state-of-the-art" manufacturing techniques.

  • Assists in make/buy evaluations and makes recommendations on "IN-HOUSE" VS. "OUTSIDE VENDOR" manufacturing capabilities.

  • Assists in vendor surveys.

  • Evaluates the requirements for assembly tooling, fixtures, and equipment required to support the manufacturing operations.

  • Participates in Material Review Board (MRB) activities and takes an active role in the dispositioning of discrepant material and/or assemblies.

  • Participates in the Change Control Board (CCB) review of engineering change orders to insure proposed design changes are producible and within manufacturing capabilities

  • Assists in the monitoring of daily production activities and makes recommendations on material and/or labor reductions to promote efficiency of operation.

  • Coordinates with the Methods and Tooling groups and provides the technical product or specification drawing interpretations required for the design and fabrication of assembly tools, fixtures, and process methods instructions.

  • Provides manufacturing assembly flow charts required to support the product flow and/or assembly sequence.

  • Provides manufacturing assembly floor and equipment layouts required to promote an efficient flow of product through the various assembly states.

  • Conducts any special manufacturing projects, evaluations or surveys as directed by management.

  • Actively participate in Lean projects and activities including 5S, TPM, VSM, etc.

  • Conducts vendor surveys

  • Monitors daily production activity and makes recommendations on material and/or labor improvements to promote operational efficiency.

  • Recommend methods for reducing waste of materials and utilities.

  • Builds stable working relationships internally.

  • Lean Green Belt certification

  • Demonstrated ability to document and solve moderate to complex cross-functional challenges using structured problem solving tools

  • Good written and oral presentation skills

  • Demonstrates engineering level understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems or mechanical components and systems depending upon education and related experience background.


  • 3-years Manufacturing Engineering experience


  • Strong technical and project management experience

  • Reviews/oversees engineering design drawings prior to "Production Release" for product manufacturability and compatibility with "state-of-the-art" manufacturing techniques

  • Assumes a lead technical role in make/buy evaluations and makes recommendations on "IN-HOUSE" VS. "OUTSIDE VENDOR" manufacturing capabilities.

  • Supports a wide variety or group of complex equipment, specifying, implementing and enhancing performance.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring and training to junior employees.

  • Lean Green Belt certification


  • 8-years manufacturing engineering experience in high complexity technical projects



  • 5 years' experience leading technical projects in cross-functional strategic initiatives



  • 3 years in a an engineering leadership or SME role



  • 3-years of experience in ISO compliance


  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by management

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of Manufacturing Engineers, you will be responsible for supporting fabrication processes for our BE-4 and BE-3U rocket engines. This is a weekend support position (Three 12 hour shifts on Fri/Sat/Sun) for our fabrication areas, which include machining and welding. You will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent manufacturing processes which focus on quality and repeatability. In this role you will work to ensure the continuous movement of hardware and solve complex technical problems. You will work closely with production operators, quality technicians, and engineering counterparts to support welding processes for tight tolerance and complex rocket engine components. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight. The permanent location of this position is Huntsville, Alabama. On-site work is required with no opportunity for remote work. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Responsibilities: * Define, develop, implement, optimize, and own welding processes. * Work with other areas of engineering to solve issues on the production line in an efficient and safe manner to keep hardware moving on weekend shifts. * Create/modify manufacturing work instructions to disposition non-conformances. * Troubleshoot and operate equipment as required. * Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions. * Willing to work in other areas of the factory as needed. * Contribute to fabrication DFMA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and build. * Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent welding processes which can be deployed across multiple manufacturing sites. * Identify, develop, and deploy new welding methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule. * Utilize lean manufacturing methodology for process development and problem solving. * Design, procure, install, and qualify custom manufacturing equipment/fixtures. * Travel required for training and other support activities. (~10%) * Collaborate closely with internal customers (M&P engineers, test technicians, manufacturing engineers, management, and design/analysis engineers) to define requirements and align tools to meet company objectives. Qualification: * 4-year Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Welding, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university. * 3 - 5 years' experience as a welding engineer and/or manufacturing engineer in welding field * 2+ years of experience in writing process work instructions is a must * Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including a strong working knowledge of GD&T. * Strong knowledge in material properties and welding processes * Understanding of WPS and weld parameters * Programing and troubleshooting of multi axis robots (Kuka, ABB) * Past involvement with processing non-conformances and troubleshooting processes. * Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc) * Skills with ERP/MES systems * Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100. * Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
