The Manufacturing Engineer II is responsible for defining, sustaining, and improving all new and current manufacturing processes in the machine shop. These include all machining, testing, inspection, and post processing steps performed by machine shop associates. They are expected to create a safe work environment, identify opportunities for waste reduction, and ensure all work meets customer quality requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze, plan, and design layout of work area, equipment, resources, and production methods for waste reduction and maximum efficiency, with the use of Lean Manufacturing principles and processes

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards

  • Maintain and ensure quality of machined product by identifying, evaluating, and resolving production, process, and quality problems

  • Drive, coordinate, and facilitate continuous improvement projects, kaizen events, and cost improvement initiatives for both manufacturing and facility operations

  • Addresses and resolves technical issues per procedure and notifies Engineers and Supervisor of any unsolved technical issues

  • Assists in driving the execution of projects to meet timelines while supporting multiple projects concurrently

  • Provides technical assistance, guidance, and training to other associates

  • Assists machine maintenance with breakdown repair and PM scheduling

  • Works to continually improve the setup, calibration, and manufacture of product including samples

  • Must be able to use all types of inspection tools (Calipers, micrometers, etc)

  • Monitors, audits, and complies with Lock-Out/Tag-Out safety policy for all plant activities

  • Communicates with engineering and supervision on any engineering issues

  • Strictly follows company procedures, safe working practices, and policies

  • Must have knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) when handling materials and/or chemicals

  • Identifies, reports, and recommends corrective actions for any unsafe conditions or inefficient processes to Supervision

  • Demonstrated understanding of common manufacturing processes, facility equipment, or machinery, including strong knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic applications

  • Ability to identify root cause, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Strong interpersonal skills which foster teamwork and collaboration

  • Develops high quality working relationships to influence, gain support, and achieve results. This includes a strong cooperation with production, engineering, and maintenance personnel, as well as external customers and vendors.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively deliver and transfer knowledge of technical concepts to production associates and respond to questions.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle proprietary and sensitive information with integrity

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to interact with employees at various levels & skill sets

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, required.
  • 2 -5 years of experience in manufacturing/technical/R&D environment required.

Demand and Work Environment:

Work environment includes regular exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, dust particles, and constant exposure to variable temperatures. Work performed in both warehouse and office settings. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required to be worn during shift.

Physical requirements include lifting up to 50lbs, standing for long periods of time, good hand and finger dexterity, and ability to bend, twist, reach and walk.
