Position Overview:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for delivering a predictable flow of quality product at rate. The engineers will oversee the overall manufacturing flow and development of the processes to ensure quality products that meet both the customer and IEC's standards and expectations. Process engineers routinely interface with the customer, program manager, manufacturing leads and operators as well as upper management to accomplish the tasks necessary to meet the goals. The engineer supports the manufacturing process from quoting, product development and customer support for his/her products/customers. This importantly, the engineer is the primary technical contact for the customer with IEC, and assures customer satisfaction through required data, reports and corrective action.

Essential Duties

  • Ability to apply DFM principles to perform analysis of new and existing customer, as well as internal assembly designs, and submit modification recommendations to the appropriate customer.

  • Develop manufacturing process for new products. Ability to develop and define manufacturing process, including process layout and concepts.

  • Able to seek, recognize, define and solve problems/opportunities within the Factory.

  • Define need for new processes and/or capital equipment required to produce assembly.

  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing process controls and the statistical applications associated.

  • Develop and document manufacturing procedure through the writing of process details. Maintain revision updates

  • Ability to review Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and provide feedback on labor and process impact of change.

  • Daily/weekly product problem solving with CFFM, cell lead, mfg technician

o From weekly defect data

o Customer returns

o Daily issues

  • Assist in quoting efforts through labor, tooling and testing details.

  • Using COQ data, reduce total cost of manufacturing products.

  • Process training of engineering technicians, cell leads and operators.

  • Proactively questions specific technical requests from the customer, ensuring feasibility and ultimate mutual success

  • Providing required customer data

o Weekly/monthly/quarterly data reports flow through ME

o NPI product status

o Answers customer use issues/defects in customer manufacturing

o Overseer of CAR prior to submitting to customer

o QBR meeting preparation and reporting

  • Assists with Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.

Minimum Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a similar position, or a combination of experience and education

Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Ability to create and maintain positive working relationship with customers.

  • Reading and Comprehending Customer Documentation

  • Industry standards (MIL-STD, IPC, ISO, etc)

  • Product knowledge basics of design/end use application/component application

  • Skilled at working with vendors/contractors of equipment for new products and to develop new processes.

  • Technical skill with component suppliers

  • 6 sigma process knowledgeable/skilled at application of statistics

  • Statistical process control proficiency.

  • Ability to work independently on several projects in a fast paced

environment.

  • Excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Communicate well with program management and customers.

Computer Skills:

  • Basic Must have the ability to learn company ERP software to extract required material and labor data to complete requested analysis of processes.

  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Excel, Powerpoint
  • Intermediate CAD/Modeling Software
  • Proficient in the opening, reviewing and updating of product design in company approved software package. Ability to design process layouts, tooling fixtures and mechanical assembly aids for assembly.

Physical Activity Requirements:

Work Environment: Production environment where the noise level is generally moderately noisy

Work Position: Combination of sitting, standing, and walking around

Body Movements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

Weight Requirements:

Position Overview: Implement Functional Test processes either supplied by customers or designed from their specifications, ensure the set ups are kept current as specifications and/or product revisions change, train IEC staff on the test process. The Sr. Test Engineer is primarily responsible for reviewing outgoing quality, optimizing test processes to yield better quality, and promoting test requirements and awareness on their programs. Sr. Test Engineers regularly interface with Process Engineering, Customers, Manufacturing Operators, and Manufacturing leadership on current test issues. Sr. Test Engineers regularly support the Corrective Action process and continual improvement initiatives. They regularly interact with customers to provide information, investigation and reports on IEC test and manufacturing processes. They will analyze data and perform experiments (like a DMAIC) to further optimize test and manufacturing processes. Essential Duties: Technical * Plans, designs, and coordinates the various components of the overall test process * Write test software and firmware as required * Perform mechanical design for test fixtures as required * Ability to drive several projects to completion simultaneously with minimal supervision * Redesign circuitry on an as needed basis for customer approval. Circuitry may be analog, digital or RF, depending upon the product * Work with all necessary departments to ensure that customer requirements are met * Drive to reduce the aged inventory process * Mentor Jr. Test Engineers and Technicians * Provide training to test support personnel (Test certifications etc.) Quality: * Ensure the test set-ups and test instructions are ready for use and at proper revisions * Design, construct and document test set-ups to customer's specifications as required * Communicate with customers concerning test or other technical issues * Issue informal & formal reports that are either technical or task oriented * Improve accuracy and through-put of tests by monitoring test fallout and correcting tests which result in false failures or escapes * Train test operators in the proper use of test equipment and test fixtures * Cross train to gain proficiency in other tasks as assigned * Drive continuous improvement and support all aspects of test for assigned Customer(s) * Ensure the proper methods, processes and tools are available for production to allow proper test protocol * Track and report key test metrics relevant to the assigned Customer(s). * Improve existing processes, testing and otherwise, using Lean Six Sigma methodologies such as design of experiments * Document the results of analyses and experiments in a formal technical report * Support audits to ensure Testing Process Documentation contain critical test points * Support other administrative functions (ie quoting etc) * Lead and support efforts to improve yield * Support quality escalation system * Manage implementation of all engineering changes * Support root cause investigation regarding quality issues * Support quality process to make decisions on acceptability of product Productivity: * Support one-piece flow * Support Lean (jidoka, 5-S, standard work, poka yoke, visual controls, etc) * Lead the identification and removal of re-test out of the process (eliminate redundancy) * Support new product introduction, and production trials for identification and resolution of quality issues * Staying up to date of new test technology in their area of concentration Cost: * Support cost reduction targets COPQ (cost of poor quality) * Support and communicate department policies that relate to team Customer Service: * Ensure that all testing meets customer requirements * Respond efficiently to both internal and external customers * Directly interface with customers as required. This can include sales visits, design reviews, status reviews or other occasions * Provide technical support to other departments within IEC as needed Administration: * Keep in line with company's accredited certifications and safety policy * Support administrative functions such as data collection analysis, quoting, customer interfacing Position Qualifications: Minimum Education: BSEE or BSET degree Minimum Experience: 8 years Test/Design Engineering experience in either digital hardware or linear/RF electronic with a strong digital background Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience: * Ability to read and interpret schematics * Good written and verbal communication skills * Ability to create clear concise and tactful communications to customers in MSWord or Powerpoint * Six Sigma training preferred (green belt) with some knowledge of basic statistics * Demonstrated people skills, able to work with all levels of personnel Computer Skills: * Intermediate Microsoft Word skills as evidenced by the ability to perform all of the basic functions as well as create moderately complex documents containing tables and graphs, and ability to mail merge documents, apply page setup functions (margins, page numbers, footers, headers), create an index and/or table of contents, use search & replace, print labels and envelopes. * Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills as evidenced by the ability to perform all of the basic functions as well as the ability to use workbooks, link data, create and edit charts, change page orientation, add headers and footers, filter and sort lists, format data, insert rows, enter and sort data and produce graphs and charts and be able to interpret the data in those charts to actionable measurable results. * Intermediate Microsoft Powerpoint skills as evidenced by the ability to apply all of the basic skills as well as use and print notes, changing color schemes, changing fonts, bullets, slide backgrounds; adding a table, changing a slide layout, adding a chart, creating organizational charts, and search & replace.
