Gerber is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our amazing team in Portland, OR!

About the Role:

The Manufacturing Engineer will be a member of the Gerber Manufacturing Engineering Team and will be responsible to the team for various tasks related to the transition of new products into manufacturing and sustaining of the manufacturing processes. Also responsible for developing an area of expertise within the facility for this function. This role is responsible for working with other Manufacturing Engineers and production personnel in developing and ensuring stable processes and with Purchasing in developing supply chains, as well as performing other tasks such as routing creation, cost estimating, etc.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • As member of new product development team, participate in project, Design for Manufacturability reviews, FMEA, quality planning and design review meetings
  • Provide design for manufacturability support, help choose manufacturing processes and materials to achieve design intent and cost targets
  • Assumes cost, quality, and delivery responsibility for assigned product lines; creates applicable documentation, resolves day-to-day production issues, improves existing processes
  • Develops work instructions, routings and other documents to support the product quality and design integrity.
  • Provides upfront cost analysis for manufacturing and assembly, and assembly processes before design release.
  • Designs product line layouts, workstation layouts, equipment and material flow layouts, and stocking programs.
  • Oversee capital equipment projects from budget, approval, purchase, install train and release to production
  • Initiates, designs, and constructs tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids. Provides training to production employees.

Shared responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot existing and new product problems, working in team environment to solve product function and quality issues
  • Drive cost improvements in existing product lines
  • Drive improvements in new product development process around process capability studies, first article through pilot run release, etc.

KPIs and Targets:

  • Delivery new product to market on time at the proper quality and cost
  • Responsible for annual cost improvement projects
  • Assist in overall shop floor efficiency gains through recommended layout, equipment and process optimization

What You Can Bring to the Organization:

  • Education:

  • Completed Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree

  • 2-5 years in a role with similar responsibilities.

  • Experience managing NPD multiple projects of various size at one time

  • Able to manage capital projects of various scope

  • Ability to work autonomously and see project driven to completion

  • Work well cross functionally with several departments (Design, Marketing, Production, Quality, Finance)

  • Prefer lean training and experience, Green or Black belt not needed but helpful

  • Proficient at Solid works and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)

  • SAP experience

This position is out of our Geber office and will be a Hybrid (onsite/remote) role.
