The Manufacturing Engineer at Cooper Tire is responsible for the certification, industrialization, and maintenance of assigned tire specifications.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Leads efforts to optimize yields and manufacturing efficiencies on assigned specifications.

  • Provides tire engineering support as required to all areas of production.

  • Issues project/new development specs for the building of test tires

  • Ensure that tire building specifications will produce tires that meet all standards established by Corporate Technical and Corporate Product Assurance

  • Responsible for interpreting control plans, dispositioning off-specification material as requested, and issue special projects as requested by Corporate

  • Review cut tire analysis of surveillance tires regularly and adjust component specifications as needed

  • Analyzes wheel test data and conformance to standards and initiates construction changes for performance improvements as required

  • Participates in process improvement, aids in training of new departmental personnel, review tire adjustments, make temporary spec changes as required to assist the plant

  • Maintain contact with Corporate Tire Engineers to remain current with product trends and serves as the technical advisor to Production and Product Assurance departments.


Bachelors degree in Engineering

Product Design/Engineering experience preferred

Lean Six Sigma experience desired

Excellent organization and computer skills

Demonstrates high level of accuracy, reliability, and accountability

Job Responsibilities * Facilitate the implementation of lean strategy within the Assembly/Finish Operations at the Findlay plant. * Lead capital projects to improve safety, quality, delivery and cost. * Lead process implementation, process optimization, root cause analysis, and capacity increases. * Facilitate projects and teach / mentor / train shop floor teams in lean strategies and concepts. * Provide day to day support to the assembly leadership group including problem solving, cost estimates, standard costs, labor and process flow / layouts. * Provide project management of new and existing equipment. * Work cross functionally with other teams to drive solutions. Function Overview This job function is responsible for the engineering and technical operations of the assembly/finish organization. Activities include designing, constructing, testing, operating, and implementing equipment; ensure that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness and performance are met in production processes. Interpretation of plans, drawings and specifications. Provide leadership and support to ensure manufacturing lines achieve business metrics. Continuously identify and eliminate non-value-added activities. Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Engineering * 5+ years of manufacturing experience in Product or Process Design Preferred requirements * Well-developed communications, project management, coaching, interpersonal and team building skills. * Resourcefulness in accomplishing objectives and completing tasks with minimal supervision yet seeks guidance when appropriate * Skills to research and understand root cause for product and process problems and drive improvement based on analysis * Working knowledge of Google, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD * Ability to create complete sets of working drawings. * Knowledge of manufacturing processes * Extensive problem solving skills * Requires comprehensive knowledge of the use of advanced manufacturing techniques in a Lean Manufacturing environment. * Extensive mechanical knowledge, as well as design ability. * 3D Solid Modeling experience a plus * Electrical systems and PLC knowledge * Exposure to robotic automation and its applications * Must possess good judgment, planning and analytical skills with the ability to introduce new and different concepts into an existing organization. * Six Sigma methodology * Must be able to relate with all levels of the organization.
