JOB SUMMARY

Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products. Priorities include process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manufacturability: Manages the transition of the new product from engineering to production. Supports productivity initiatives by improving manufacturing processes and methods resulting in cost reduction and efficiency. Participates in project planning and production meetings; provides technical support to production personnel. Designs, develops and/or sources tools, machinery and test equipment as required for current or new products. Evaluates manufacturing process for proper methods, corrects manufacturing problems, and trains production personnel regarding new manufacturing process. Supports, maintains and drives improvements related to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost (SQDC) metrics for facility wide initiatives. Troubleshoots production issues, failures, and First Pass Yield.

  • Visionary Outlook: Supports Future Factory Vision that includes manufacturing technologies such as Cobots & 3D printing. Stays informed concerning new manufacturing technology and equipment, and investigates potential future applications. Support the exploration and development of new process technologies that can be incorporated into new product development projects or existing manufacturing lines. Evaluates new equipment to aide production and reduce costs; establishes equipment specifications and ordering timelines, implements equipment or work process upgrades. Schedules and prioritizes manufacturing engineering projects.

  • Maintenance and Repairs: Maintains and repairs test equipment or prepares maintenance work orders. Investigates and resolves vendor questions or problems and assesses vendor capabilities to meet Barksdale standards.

  • Reporting: Prepares and verifies manufacturing work instructions including assembly, and soldering procedures. Prepares reports regarding the status of manufacturing engineering projects, process recommendations, quote specifications, cost justifications, statistical process control documents, outside purchased inventory, and capital expense justifications. Recommends vendors, materials, processes and optimal process instructions, interim production options, and documentation package requirements.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • Experience with manufacturing engineering practices, methods and design concepts; statistical process methods; DFMEA, electro-mechanical capabilities; computer-aided design (CAD) both 2D and 3D; tool and fixture design practices; assembly technology; machining technology, welding technology; electronic circuits and components; programming & PLC as related to automation and robotics; quality standards; ISO:9001 and other agency requirements, geometric dimensioning and tolerances; project management techniques; manufacturing process.

  • Able to problem solve programming error in test fixtures and hardware connection issues with own research through web search.

  • Knowledge in Automation and programming MATLAB, PYTHON, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD.

  • Hands on knowledge in soldering, distinguishing cables, and adept in electronics.

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods;

  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Knowledge of LEAN and SIX Sigma tools.

  • Experience with evaluating production impact and manufacturability of engineering designs; communicate effectively verbally and in writing with vendors, production staff, and management; evaluate and solve production problems; evaluate the ease of manufacture of a product and labor hours required given specification changes; calculate time standards; identify opportunities for cost reduction, labor hour reduction, or tooling improvements; identify areas where rejections may be reduced or quality enhanced.

  • Familiarity with Cobots and their integration into peripheral systems.

  • Hands on experience using various hand and power tools to troubleshoot and calibrate Cobot components.

  • May require the ability to obtain a valid California driver's license and have an acceptable driving record in order to travel to vendor and customer locations to evaluate capabilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

May need to lift/move up to 35lbs.

Willing and able to work extended hours when necessary.

COMPENSATION

Salary range: $67,800 to $80,000. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Compensation packages also include comprehensive benefits, 401K contribution and match, Paid Time Off, paid holidays, tuition reimbursement and more. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs"
