We are pleased to share that we have a career opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer as a strategic part of the Blue Bird Production Engineering Team. With a focus on the Three Blue Bird Foundational Objectives: Take Care of Employees: Delight Customers & Dealers: Deliver Profitable Growth. This role will drive functional excellence and continuous improvement.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the SVP, Lean Transformation & Quality, this role is responsible for delivering the activities related to optimizing production manufacturing processes through developing, planning, and implementing improvements that positively impact Safety, Quality, Labor, and Delivery, utilizing engineering principles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fabrication department technical support

  • Approve all new products through an initial sample inspection report (ISIR) investigation and ensure all metrics are met prior to implementation

  • Utilize product lifecycle management (PLM) system including reviewing product design changes and assess manufacturing impact

  • Recognize labor impact with process/design changes and implement plans with little impact to manufacturing departments

  • Develop business cases, create authorizations for expenditures for funding procurement

  • Lead continuous process improvement efforts using statistical process control (SPC), process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), and control plans

  • Work with Production & Quality team to analyze, resolve and respond to manufacturing issues

  • Perform other job duties as required by supervisor and manager and maximize work flow during employee absences

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Balanced, dynamic, methodical approach; good work ethic, integrity, and professional conduct

  • Must demonstrate positive attitude; foster teamwork; responsive to customer/mfg issues

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; administrative and financial skills, excellent problem solver; able to interact with personnel in other organizations.

  • Ability to read and understand Engineering prints/drawings

  • Bus and chassis assembly

  • Program management and launch

  • Must possess excellent planning and organization skills

  • Competent user of MS Office products including Project

EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE:

  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Accredited University

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in manufacturing, automotive preferred

  • Past experience in Production Supervision a plus

  • Strong background in Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) strategies and Quality Assurance (QA) initiatives

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, cold and noise

  • Must be able to work as necessary

  • Must be able to work with diverse workforce

  • Weekends and travel as required

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:

  • Able to meet engineering standards and procedures

  • Obey company policy and procedures

  • Successful project completion

  • Must meet established department goals

  • Must work within budgetary boundaries
