The Layton Utah facility specializes in machining the largest most complex structures built from carbon fiber composites and aluminum for the aerospace and space exploration markets. POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position is located on-site in Layton, Utah.

The Manufacturing Engineer for Automation does a variety of tasks to support the manufacturing of of high tolerance, high value aerospace components in an AS9100 environment. Those tasks including research, development, and testing of all aspects of mechanical and electrical components, equipment, systems, controls, software, and machinery. The primary machinery utilized are Janicki 5-axis mills and Lieca Laser CMMs. The Manufacturing Engineer for Automation applies knowledge of engineering to design, implement, and support products such as instruments, controls, and machines for the purpose of production, engineering, and project management support. They will purchase, integrate, and improve hardware and software for custom applications. Other duties include leading the fabrication, installation, application, and technical support of such products.

The following essential job functions are performed as an Automation Engineer:

  • Develop and implement improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly, machining and inspection processes.

  • Develops and executes high level and detailed project plans, including managing schedules and budgets.

  • Completes and understands all quality requirements for projects.

  • Manages project scope and performs risk assessments.

  • Identify opportunities for automation within software processes.

  • Identify bugs and quality issues in development, service or business processes.

  • Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines.

  • Must be at work on time and maintain good attendance. This is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, automation, or a related technical field is required.

  • 3-5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Skills with PLCs, basic programming, and electro-mechanical systems is required.

  • Experience with CATIA and NX or equivalent CAD software is required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software is required.

  • Experience with 5 axis milling machines and Siemens 840D controllers is preferred.

  • An understanding GD&T and the use of Laser CMM measurement tools is preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Salary range for this role is between $68,000 - $145,000, plus discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, vacation, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts. The range provided is Janicki's estimate of the base compensation for this role. Actual amount offered will be based on job-related and non-discriminatory factors such as experience, location, education, training, skills, and abilities.
