SUMMARY:

Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes in industrial plant: Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

Help to develop a continuous improvement culture to enhance quality and operational excellence.

  • Support process improvement initiatives. Initiate new projects and be a technical resource for key improvement initiatives, identifying best practices. Develop action plans to achieve short and long-range efficiency goals, selection of new production methods, designs of production fixtures, and methods to monitor efficiencies. Drive automation to replace the manual process as much as possible.

  • Monitor timelines and project deliverables to ensure adherence with approved project plans for manufacturing process development.

  • Identify issues and risks to ensure cost effective new product development and introduction into manufacturing.

Provide general Manufacturing Engineering duties.

  • Provide guidance in the development of manufacturing processes, validation and product specifications, including material specifications, assembly drawings, tooling and manufacturing documentation.

  • Work with project teams to identify issues and risks associated with NPD. During new product development integrate with Engineers, Design Engineers, Quality Engineers and the Packaging Department/and or Production Department to ensure cost effective new product development and introduction into manufacturing. Responsible for performing design reviews and pre-validation assessments (DFM, 3P).

  • Research and provide recommendations for new equipment, products, and processes utilizing industry standard project management tools and techniques. Responsible for the purchase or design of equipment that meets health, safety and environmental standards set by the company. Present process and equipment recommendations to Leadership Team with regular and timely reviews that will define team roles, responsibilities, and accountability to project plans for implementation.

Provide sustaining engineering support for shop floor ongoing issues.

  • Develop manufacturing Work Instructions and Operation Sheets/Process Prints in support of Standard Work.

  • Provide process support on manufacturing technical issues.

  • Design production workstations and processes for ergonomics and efficiency.

  • Define Preventive Maintenance programs for equipment associated with production activities.

Communicate business related issues or opportunities to next management level.

  • Travel to observe procedures, attend sponsored meetings and meet with customers, business partners or suppliers.

Accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly, from the bid phase through sustained production.</p><p>Job Responsibilities</p><ul><li><p>Exemplifying a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.</p></li><li><p>Leads positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers.</p></li><li><p>Colaborate with team to industrialize manufacturing process by incorperating input from the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process.</p></li><li><p>Analyzes engineering drawings to determine sequence of machine operations and develops multi-axis NC programs for turning an milling operations accordingly.</p></li><li><p>Makes proper tool and fixture selections for each part, taking into consideration such factors as speeds, types of cutters, feeds and limitations to achieve manufacturing goals.</p></li><li><p>Develop fixture designs and in-process models as needed.</p></li><li><p>Support the development of bids through the generation of NC programs and machining processes.</p></li><li><p>Resolve highly complex technical issues and conduct advanced root cause investigations.</p></li><li><p>Review, understand and/or define equipment capability for new manufacturing processes</p></li><li><p>Complete capability verification and validation of the processes and or equipment.</p></li><li><p>Ensure project targets are met during Manufacturing Readiness Level/Industrial Reviews.</p></li><li><p>Ensure compliance to quality standards and New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.</p></li><li><p>Develop standard work for the operators to setup and operate the machine easily and efficiently.</p></li><li><p>Provide local project technical oversight for the development of NC Programming solutions to complex problems.</p></li></ul><p>Job Qualifications</p><p>Required Qualifications:</p><ul><li><p>Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, etc.), or in lieu of degree 7-10 years of experience in CNC machining.</p></li><li><p>Minimum of 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, aerospace preferred.</p></li><li><p>Minimum of 3 years of NC programming and machining methods to include 3D modeling.</p></li><li><p>Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements.</p></li></ul><p>Preferred Qualifications:</p><ul><li><p>GKN experience.</p></li><li><p>Proficient computer skills Microsoft Office.</p></li><li><p>3, 4 &amp; 5 Axis CNC programing of airfoils (NX CAD/CAM, Teamcenter, Vericut, Thirdwave Systems &amp; Turbosoft prefered).</p></li><li><p>Hands-on machining experience with program testing &amp; process prove-out.</p></li><li><p>Experience working within a global technical community and interfacing with broader business functions.</p></li><li><p>Adept in problem solving and process control.</p></li><li><p>Machining fixture design knowledge.</p></li><li><p>Strong time management and project management skills.</p></li><li><p>Good reporting and communication skills on project status and progress.</p></li><li><p>Proactive in regard to new developments of expertise required.</p></li><li><p>Able to travel domestically or internationally as required.</p></li><li><p>Ability to work successfully within a matrix managed business, able to influence without direct authority.</p></li><li><p>Experience working within a global technical community and interfacing with broader business functions.</p></li><li><p>Desire to build working relationships through team work, leadership, coaching and personal drive.</p></li></ul><p>Diversity Inclusion and Belonging (DIB)</p><p>As a global engineering company, innovation is what differentiates us from our competitors and is central to our success.</p><p>A balance of cultures, ethnicities and genders help bring new ideas and creativity to GKN.
