JOB DESCRIPTION:

The work location is Lexington, Tennessee.

Summary:

Responsible for coordinating project work and problem solving activities as they relate to present or new manufacturing processes. Must be familiar with all phases of planning and costing, but is primarily concerned with robotics, tooling and fabrication, finishing, assembly, machine design, etc. Primary responsibility is to facilitate orderly transformation of the manufacturing facilities to accommodate changing products and manufacturing technology

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Products and components consistent with obtaining and maintaining optimum costs, quality, inventories, and investment in facilities. Activities will include all aspects of prototype development and builds. Actively applies new manufacturing technologies and aggressively evaluates and reports on manufacturing opportunities which will contribute to the plant's objectives and goals. Participates in the product design activity to assure optimum productivity and costs. Suggests alternative designs, materials, or processes. Must be capable of resolving all problems while maintaining good rapport with customers. Maintains effective communications with all people affected by projects and issues operating instructions when required. Issues periodic status reports to keep affected personnel informed. Prepares manufacturing studies to determine optimum manufacturing costs, quality, and inventories and/or evaluates feasibility for new or existing products, processes or materials. Recommends changes for the most practical and economical manufacturing processes, including material, labor, tooling, equipment, and ancillary factors. Participates in selecting, approving, and developing tooling and equipment to satisfy manufacturing requirements and product design intent. Provides customer liaison as relates to product design and engineering matters. Coordinates new processes implementation and training. Insures that all relevant tooling is capable of making required product to meet all timing goals. Serves as resource person to process changes, problem solving committee, etc., to insure product design intent is not jeopardized. Actively pursue quality improvements in the manufacturing process. Serves as champion of Pre-Launch Team of all new programs.

Researches and implements state of the art technology to assure that product design is manufactured in most capable/cost effective manner possible. Insures that product design allows for these state of the art technologies. Ensure plant is pursuing latest technological advances. Work closely with production to ensure key measures such as:

  • Quick Tool Change

  • Press Utilization

  • Die Performance

  • O-PPM

  • Scrap and off-fall reduction meets or exceeds world class standards.

  • Minimization of indirect labor to increase productivity and efficiency

  • Lean Manufacturing Methods

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education: B.S.M.E or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years in manufacturing engineering or related manufacturing area.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively and constructively with people to obtain support to meet applicable quality, delivery, and cost constraints. Ability to manage, prioritize, and direct multiple tasks to achieve compressed time constraints.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, management, peers, and subordinates both orally and in prose.

  • Ability to develop visions and implement ideas to achieve continuous improvements and cost reductions throughout plant.

  • Ability to adapt and adjust to changing environmental requirements.

VIEW JOBS 3/18/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-16T00:00 JOB DESCRIPTION Function: * The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer has direct responsibility on assigned programs for developing and releasing a production ready manufacturing process from quote through implementation on the plant floor. Ownership of the manufacturing process beginning with Product Engineering interface, continuing with equipment vendor monitoring and finishing with the Adient production facility will be required to facilitate a smooth launch. The AME must transition each program to the plant manufacturing team and to ensure program targets for cost and labor are achieved. The AME is a core member of the Simultaneous Development Team (SDT). Responsibilities: * Lead "Design for Assembly and Manufacturing" (DFAM) reviews, on assigned programs with product engineering team(s), including GD&T review of product(s). Work with product engineering to develop a product that meets our required manufacturing standards and processes. * Responsible for establishing new program capital equipment, tooling, gage and plant upfit costs for installation on new programs. Regular report outs on status (timing and expenditures) against budget, including deviations, delays and potential risks to program timing are expected to management. Track the design, development, shipment and on-site installation & certification of equipment to Adient manufacturing facilities. * Develop plant layout, material flow, equipment tracking and manufacturing process for new programs. Work with Industrial Engineering on capacity planning to establish cycle time and equipment requirements. The AME is responsible to track and update all documentation leading up to and through product launch. * Responsible for on time Manufacturing Engineering Sign Offs for all launch gates. Get equipment built, installed and certified on time to meet customer deliverables. Also responsible to ensure equipment readiness for program PPAP. * Organize required prototype build events. * Work with production plant to ensure staffing, plant layout, utility needs and timing are understood and agreed upon. * Maintain "Open Issues List" for equipment and manufacturing development. Drive closure to all issues on time to meet program expectations. * Work with the production plant to achieve timely and proper installation and certification of the capital equipment so program expectations are met (financial and performance). * Responsible to engage the manufacturing engineering and maintenance team at the Adient facility until a smooth and effective transition hand-off is realized. Skills and Experience: * Engineering Degree (or equivalent experience), prefer ME, IE or EE * Minimum 3-5 years experience in manufacturing (prefer automotive or related) Essential * Ability to work as part of a cross functional team towards common goals but with separate but often crossing areas of responsibility * Skilled in problem solving * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Proven interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills * Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments Desirable * Welding experience, metal forming / stamping, machine building * Program Management experience.
