JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY

Responsible for coordinating project work and problem solving activities as they relate to present or new manufacturing processes. Familiar with all phases of planning and costing, but is primarily concerned with robotics, tooling and fabrication, finishing, assembly, machine design, etc. Primary responsibility is to facilitate orderly transformation of the manufacturing facilities to accommodate changing products and manufacturing technology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements processes, methods, tools equipment, and controls for the manufacturer of products and components consistent with obtaining and maintaining optimum costs, quality, inventories, and investment in facilities. Activities will include all aspects of prototype development and builds.

  • Actively applies new manufacturing technologies and aggressively evaluates and reports on manufacturing opportunities which will contribute to the plant's objectives and goals.

  • Participates in the product design activity to assure optimum productivity and costs. Suggests alternative designs, materials, or processes. Must be capable of resolving all problems while maintaining good rapport with customers.

  • Maintains effective communications with all people affected by projects and issues operating instructions when required. Issues periodic status reports to keep affected personnel informed.

  • Prepares manufacturing studies to determine optimum manufacturing costs, quality, and inventories and/or evaluates feasibility for new or existing products, processes or materials.

  • Recommends changes for the most practical and economical manufacturing processes, including material, labor, tooling, equipment, and ancillary factors.

  • Participates in selecting, approving, and developing tooling and equipment to satisfy manufacturing requirements and product design intent.

  • Provides customer liaison as relates to product design and engineering matters.

  • Coordinates new processes implementation and training. Insures that all relevant tooling is capable of making required product to meet all timing goals.

  • Serves as resource person to process changes, problem solving committee, etc., to insure product design intent is not jeopardized.

  • Actively pursue quality improvements in the manufacturing process.

  • Serves as part of SDT team of Pre-Launch Team of new programs, if required and as assigned.

  • Researches and implements state of the art technology to assure that product design is manufactured in most capable/cost effective manner possible. Insures that product design allows for these state of the art technologies.

  • Ensure plant is pursuing latest technological advances.

  • Work closely with production to ensure key measures such as:

  • Machine Utilization

  • Quality- COPQ, PPM, PPSC

  • Scrap

  • Continuous Improvement

  • Lean Manufacturing Methods

  • Familiar with FMEA and Control Plans, Poka Yoke establishment and verification.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Effectively use a computer and software. Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook.

  • Safety: Study, institute and maintain efficient and safe work practices, procedures, facilities; by coordinating with the Human Relations Department and Manufacturing Engineering Department and keep them abreast of all safety and efficiency requirements in order to maintain an accident-free, high efficiency plant operation.

  • Follow all Health & Safety and Environmental requirements that are defined on work instructions or communicated in training.

  • Follow required emergency prevention and operational controls

  • Report all accidents, occupational illnesses and emergencies

MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, and/or equivalent experience.

  • At least 2-5 years in manufacturing engineering or related manufacturing area, automotive is a plus.

  • Competent working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process utilizing DFAM principles.

  • Capable of implementing processes, methods, tools equipment, and controls for the manufacturer of products and components consistent with obtaining and maintaining optimum costs, quality, inventories, and investment in facilities. Activities will include all aspects of prototype development and builds.

  • Create processes and procedures to help the company meet budgetary goals as well as performance metrics.

  • Practical knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, Control Plans, Process Flows, and Operator Instruction Sheets.

  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills with ability to utilize time management skills.

  • Proficient with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office programs.

  • Willing to work off shifts, if necessary

  • Willing to work overtime, if necessary

  • Willing to travel, if necessary

PREFERRED

  • Automotive experience.

  • Experience within a metals production manufacturing environment with emphasis in stamping, welding, and assembly.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with CAD programs a plus

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Support the maintenance department by assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment issues, which includes troubleshooting PLC ladder logic and data handling functions in Control Logix processors. * Maintain PLC documentation upon receipt from equipment suppliers and an archive of PLC programs and machine controls drawings in an electronic and/or paper format and throughout facility. * Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve automated equipment including devices, I/O, instruments and all other components associate with automated processes to meet production and safety goals. * Support various I/O devices connected to PLC's including HMI's, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, servo drives, etc., and support/assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting pneumatic circuits. * Improve equipment uptime and contribute to Plant reliability maintenance. * Schedule and complete backups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on set schedule and develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance Programs. * Ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems. * Applies knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles to determine equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. * Implement and maintain data collection system from Plant floor processing equipment. * Identify and implement error-proofing requirements throughout the production process. * Part of multi-disciplinary Plant Team to determine continuous improvement strategies. * Identify and plan for process impact(s) as a result of engineering and launch changes. * Participate in 8D or similar root-cause based problem solving tasks to ensure that abnormalities, when observed, are acted upon to resolve root-causes. * Contribute to specifications for equipment purchases, which include review and commentary on equipment controls drawings prior to build approval. MUST HAVE * Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, and/or equivalent. * 5-7 years related Controls Engineering manufacturing experience; automotive plus. * Experience using Allen Bradley's RS Logix 5, RS Logix 5000, ControLogix and Panelview development software is a must. * Ability to diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems. * Experience with electrical drawings and schematics. * Willing to work off shifts, if necessary * Willing to work overtime, if necessary PREFERRED * Automotive experience. * Welding experience within a production manufacturing environment. GMAW, Laser, resistance welding with a technical background. * Experience of robotic welding systems and controls.
