Job Description 1

Location Profile:

Located in Gardena, California, Permaswage designs and manufactures separable and permanent fluid fittings and installation tooling for aerospace and defense applications.

Position Summary:

This is a projects-centered role focused on process improvement in a fast-paced, complex manufacturing environment. Many types of manufacturing exist at PCC Fluid Fittings; core amongst these are machining, forging, painting, assembly, and heat treatment. Competencies required of the candidate include good critical and out-of-the-box thinking abilities, a hands-on approach to problems and processes, good attention to detail, quick learning, and the employment of excellent time-management practices.

In this role, the candidate should expect to lead significant capital, lean/six-sigma, and process improvement projects. This includes managing the project's budget, developing and driving action-items necessary to achieve the project's goals, coordinating necessary resources (both internal and external), and taking lead on all other aspects of the project. Lastly, the candidate must be able to effectively report on their project(s) status and financial impact to management.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project leadership; manage new equipment acquisitions, installations, validations, procedures and documentation, operator training, and work instruction creation

  • Employ basic budgeting tools to ensure project costs and spend are kept under control and to budget

  • Develop and drive project actions, and coordinate necessary resources (both internal and external), to achieve the goal(s) and objectives established by management

  • Lead Kaizen events composed of cross-functional teams, including Lean projects, 5S+Safety (i.e. 6S) activities, and training/procedure deployment to the shop floor

  • Effectively communicate with all levels of employee, from the lowest-skilled shop-floor operator to the Vice President of the Division

  • Employ root-cause analysis tools to identify problems, determine the corrective action(s) required to address, and follow-through on correcting the issue(s)

  • Lead the implementation of new tools and/or techniques to improve product manufacture in all manufacturing areas; whether it be cost improvement, process improvement, or other type of improvement. This could include developing and designing new tools, coordinating implementation of these tools, or improvement of existing tools

  • Perform basic cost analysis' to determine the financial impact of an action or decision to the business

  • Support, mentor, and guide Interns and Co-Op team members on their projects and assigned tasks

  • Have good emotional intelligence and an ability to maintain composure in stressful environments

  • Conceptualize and implement; take a vision that you developed, and make it real.

  • Conduct statistical process analysis and capability studies

  • Perform time studies on the shop-floor to identify non-value added work and determine the best approach to minimize such lost time

  • Work under the direction and guidance of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and/or CI Manager and work with other Manufacturing Engineers of all skill levels

  • Additional duties may include developing detailed requirements for production projects related to tooling, machinery, machine layouts, process specifications, gaging, bills of materials, routers/travelers, or supplier support

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from a 4-year college or university

  • Two years related experience and/or training in a manufacturing environment in a technical role, or equivalent combination of education and experience (includes internships/Co-Ops)

  • A high level of out-of-the-box thinking ability

  • Ability to communicate and perform all primary duties and responsibilities in English, and at a high level

  • Ability to create solid-models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, including assemblies

  • Ability to employ higher-level tools within Microsoft Excel, including basic macros, pivot tables, conditional formatting, as well as perform basic analysis on data acquired

  • Fluency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint

  • Comfortable in talking-to and presenting technical information to manager and director-level leaders

  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Gage R&R, PDCA process

  • Demonstrated accomplishments in a manufacturing environment related on your ability to lead projects or teams

  • High level of energy and drive to make a difference in the business

Desired:

  • Experience in an Aerospace machine shop, fabrication shop, assembly shop, or other highly-structured aerospace environment

  • Lead/Six-Sigma training and application of DMAIC in a manufacturing environment

  • Understanding of the Toyota Production System, TPM, Kanban systems, and other Lean manufacturing tools

  • Experience with Automation equipment, principles, and programming

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $77,600 to $116,400 US Dollar (USD) Salaried based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company's Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 2X the Company's bonus multiple, based on the Company's performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 120 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.

This position requires use of information or access to production processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export control laws and regulations (including, but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR)). To be qualified to work in this facility, a successful applicant must be a U.S. Person, as defined in those regulations, and able to supply evidence of that qualification prior to starting work or be authorized to receive controlled information under a specific license or permission from the relevant government agency.
