We are hiring a Manufacturing Engineer in Athens, AL.

Description:

Under limited supervision, will implement new products into the facility, improve productivity and profitability of existing production procedures, and provide ongoing support through the manufacturing life cycle. Acts as a technical resource in process technology.

  • Floor Support: Provides timely product and process support for a manufacturing area to diagnose problems and implement solutions to minimize interruptions in production.

  • New Product Introductions: Serves as a manufacturing representative for the implementation of new product(s) into the plant. Assures that new products meet cost/profit targets, that they are implemented per schedules and on budget, and they conform to manufacturing capabilities. Establishes economical processes for new products by working with other technical areas. Evaluates whether to make or purchase parts/products.

  • Improvements: Evaluates manufacturing processes to ensure optimal labor and material costs to increase productivity and profitability. Through justifications and evaluations, identifies prime areas for improvement. Tracks expenditures to ensure outlays are within budgeted amounts. Identifies, reduces, and eliminates worker exposure(s) to ergonomic stress(es) in the work place.

  • Special Projects: Team member in the implementation of significant product, process or other corporate change initiatives being introduced into the plant.

Required Skills

  • Good analysis skills: process, capacity, cost/benefit, waste stream, and quality tools

  • Familiar with lean manufacturing techniques: flow, PQ, equipment reliability, and set up reduction

  • Negotiation and Facilitation skills

  • Knowledge of material handling and work measurement

  • Productivity improvement techniques: RCI's

  • Behavior sciences (logic, sociology, etc.)

  • Economics and financial analysis

  • Interpersonal skills

  • Computer skills; advanced level required to utilize excel, and access programs

  • Knowledge in design, specification, purchase, and installation of new equipment

  • Knowledge of Engineering Design Process

  • Knowledge of simulation, process modeling, and value stream mapping

  • Project management and leadership ability

  • Occupational Bio Mechanics/ Human Factors Engineering

Required Experience

  • 4-year technical degree or equivalent education

Investigate and solve problems related to tooling, equipment, and processes. Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements and workflow, designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Develop, recommend, and implement changes which will result in the improvement of manufacturing processes and or product quality. Assist the Process Line Manager in the development of capital and expense budgets. Evaluate new product and make recommendations relative to manufacturing feasibility. Train department personnel in safety, setup, operations and troubleshooting of existing and new equipment. Estimate production rates, setup and tooling cost for inquiry and new part setup. May specialize in a skill set such as PLC programming, welding, automation, vision system, etc. May be given certain authority within job scope by Manager Each employee has the authority to initiate action to prevent a violation of the Federal-Mogul Integrity Policy. All employees will abide by the plant's safety policy, comply with the legal and other requirements and operational controls established, work toward achieving established objectives and targets, and conform to procedures consistent with the ISO 14001 standard. An employee should report, and if necessary stop, any activity that does not conform to the policy or may injure himself/herself. Capable of providing support as requested by supervisor. Demonstrated problem solving on the shop floor. Sense of urgency and results oriented a must. Evidence of Leadership characteristics. Extensive knowledge and practical applications of Lean techniques REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree from four-year accredited college or university in a related engineering field; and 5 or more years related experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
