The Role:

Moderna is seeking a highly driven individual for a Manufacturing Associate I position within Technical Development Pilot Scale (PSO) Operations, at the Moderna manufacturing site in Norwood, MA. This position is a Monday-Friday 9am-5pm shift position. The individual hired into this role will independently run DNA, RNA, and/or LNP, LMX, DP unit operations following standard operating procedures. This individual is expected to be detail oriented and practice good laboratory practices, with a goal of manufacturing high quality DNA, mRNA and/or LNP, LMX, DP. In addition to manufacturing, the Manufacturing Associate I will be responsible for communicating issues experienced while processing. They are also expected to take the initiative to learn the science behind the process that is being run, to fundamentally understand the process steps. Also, they will track raw materials used in the process along with other good laboratory practices of accuracy and precision.

The Manufacturing Associate I have a team mentality and respects the common work areas. They help maintain the cleanliness, and 5S initiatives are put into place in the lab in common and unit assigned areas. Commitment and active participation in the safety culture is required.

In addition to a focus on manufacturing and maintaining the lab, it is strongly desired that the individual actively participates in the department's continuous improvement and optimization initiatives. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to quickly master new processes and have the drive to be part of a dynamic, fast paced, and highly engaged and motivated team.

Here's What You Will Do:

  • Follow written procedures to manufacture DNA/RNA and/or LNP/LMX/DP.

  • Practice Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Document Practices.

  • Use prior and gain additional lab experience to build efficiencies in day-to-day processes.

  • Understand the science behind the manufacturing process to fundamentally understand what he/she is doing daily.

  • Maintain a clean and safe lab space; properly label buffer bottles, discard waste in appropriate waste streams, restock workstations, clean up after him/herself.

  • Communicate with a senior team member when encountering issues during manufacturing.

  • Utilize process knowledge to identify manufacturing issues that could be optimized and/or improved.

  • Adhere to laboratory gowning procedures.

  • Adhere to documented waste handling procedures to respect environmental regulations.

  • Practice and promote safe work habits and adhere to safety procedures and guidelines.

Here's What You Will Need

  • Requires BS in a relevant science or engineering discipline, or 2+ years' experience in a biotechnology manufacturing/quality/development environment.

  • Basic lab skills; pipetting, buffer preparation, weighing material in tared containers.

  • Experience operating bioprocessing instrumentation and integrated systems
