Be part of an exciting transformation redefining how local news is covered!

WIXA is looking for a motivated leader to launch and manage an innovative new project to cover community news. The managing editor will hire and manage a new team to embed in key local communities. This leader will drive the gathering, creation, and distribution of engaging, compelling digital and social content. Our ideal candidate can identify relevant stories, teach others how to do so, and contribute to the roadmap of creating digital-interactive hyper local content for today's news consumer. The managing editor will understand how Facebook Groups connect those in community, how Nextdoor is used to inform local neighborhoods and how Reddit helps spur discussions.

In this role, you will:

  • Create unique, authentic, engaging content

  • Lead the local community team and design and execute workflow

  • Analyze daily and actively use metrics to inform editorial and strategic decisions and create accountability for results

  • Oversee team efforts on social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and other emerging platforms

  • Teach, coach, and mentor members of the locall team and in best practices for writing and producing content for digital and social platforms

  • Embrace WXIA's vision of excellence in journalism and innovation to uplift local news to empower a stronger community

Job Requirements

Here's what you need:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or equivalent experience in the field

  • Digital content experience, including a demonstrated ability to lead other journalists

  • Experience in all forms of digital content development and execution, photojournalism, video editing, and content management systems

  • Experience with audience feedback tools like CrowdTangle, Chartbeat,Google Analytics, etc. analyzing market-specific data and identifying behavioral trends

  • Passion and vision for emerging media

  • Strong organizational, motivational, and communication skills

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and lead change
