Colorado Public Radio is seeking a Climate Solutions Editor.
About the Position:
The Climate Solutions Editor will manage a team of reporters responsible for producing climate and environment coverage for CPR. This position will collaborate with other newsroom editors to facilitate communication between this team and other news teams. The role involves serving as a leader in CPR's newsroom by planning, editing, and delivering breaking news, enterprise stories, features, and projects for the climate team, as well as producing a weekly climate newsletter.
This is not a remote position. The Climate Solutions Editor is expected to reside in the Denver Metro area upon starting.
About You:
We're seeking someone with a passion for climate reporting and editing who has a track record of managing beat coverage with a focus on enterprise and breaking stories. We're seeking an experienced collaborator, mentor and coach who has experience motivating a team with constructive and regular feedback and through purposefully growing their team's skills. You should have the ability to discuss pros and cons of specific journalistic approaches to topics or stories with reporters, fellow editors, and other staff. Our new Climate Editor should be innovative, positive, collaborative, resilient and focused in the heat of breaking news. We're seeking someone who is energized by looking at stories through a lens of equity and is committed to diversity and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience related to the position. This experience should include:
At least 3 years coaching and mentoring or managing staff, helping reporters shape their beats.
Experience editing stories on deadline or for long-term projects and experience with writing the occasional breaking story. Also, experience with authoring and editing newsletters.
Experience using strong news judgment informed by equitable and empathetic journalistic values.
Experience looking up, understanding and analyzing data to create suggested courses of action.
Familiarity with (or interest in learning) working with content management systems such as WordPress.
A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced digital environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
A valid driver's license and clean driving record
