The Managing Editor/Audience is the leader of the newsroom's quest to seek, grow and maintain an engaged readership on all platforms. She/he oversees the Digital team along with the Copy and Design desks.
He/she must have a grasp of the operations of all newsroom departments, leading the decision-making of what stories can resound digitally, working with the Managing Editor/Content to set a new publishing rhythm focused on our newsletter schedule, not print deadlines. The Managing Editor/Audience will play a key role in recruiting, will develop and lead regular and meaningful employee evaluations and take an interest in the development of all members of the audience team. She/he will consult regularly with the Executive Editor on broader strategic and budget issues, forming a senior management team that includes the Managing Editor/Content, the Senior Editor/Metro and the Senior Editor/Investigations.
Qualified candidates will have the ability to reach across desks and get results, and experience with analyzing digital readership trends. Effective editor, writer and a good manager of people are critical to success. We require BS/BA degree in journalism or equivalent; 5+ years in a leadership role managing 30+ employees, along with ability embrace change & innovation; outstanding written & verbal communication skills, with capability to lead ambitious journalism of the highest caliber.
