The Managing Editor supervises the day-to-day editorial operations of the print and digital publications for AAA Northeast. Ensures that all content is well-written and adheres to AP Style. Content must be engaging and align with AAA Northeast's strategic initiatives. Will work closely with Marketing to ensure the appropriate go-to-market strategies are in place and will work with acquisitions, operations, marketing, and sales teams to ensure members' expectations and needs are met through all products and services.
Provides leadership to the function and/or staff, ensuring proper staffing and training levels of all team members with a focus on development and building bench strength while also complying with appropriate professional standards, laws, regulations and operating within the Club's mission, leadership values and the members' interest. Develops multi-year plans/budgets and manages the integration of all aspects of the function across all required Business Lines and geographies supported; maintaining knowledge and awareness of new developments in the function, potential applications to further Club initiatives and makes recommendations regarding the use of internal vs. external services, reporting on such activities and proposals and managing ongoing vendor relationships.
Supervises the day-to-day editorial operations of the print and digital publications for AAA Northeast, this includes ensuring that all content supports the strategic vision set forth by senior leadership; overseeing, assigning and editing stories; enforcing deadlines; creating and managing editorial calendars; uses AP Style across publication channels.
Generates new ideas, supported by data, that inspire members; presents and secures approval for new ideas; develops the content flow to make certain content usage is maximized; identifies and plans coverage for current and future AAA business-related events.
Develops staff writers and freelance writers to properly represent and safeguard brand voice; Writes and edits copy as needed.
Liaises with various stakeholders including business lines, sales staff, and other team leaders to establish priorities and publication plans in order to create supportive content to achieve strategic goals.
Has a strong understanding of SEO and keeps up to date on best practices. Makes certain that all digital articles adhere to established SEO scorecard. Regularly monitors SEO results and reports results to drive content and top-of-funnel business.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field. Master's degree preferred.
3-7 years of supervisory experience as a newspaper or magazine editor required.
Must possess exemplary editing, writing, organizational and time-management skills.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PPT, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
Proven executional abilities and experience meeting tight deadlines and juggling multiple responsibilities
Must function as a team player with the ability to effectively build professional relationships with vendors and Club employees in all levels of organization authority.
Analytical and solutions oriented mindset with demonstrated ability to leverage data and analytics to inform decisions
Some experience working with CMS and multiple digital formats, including web, mobile, social media, infographics and more preferred but not required
Must have experience with multimedia publishing.
Must have familiarity with latest Macintosh hardware and related Web, graphic and publication software, including Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and other prepress software.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills are required.
