We are looking for a Managing Director, Practice Management to join our Private Equity Business Unit. In this role, you will provide strategic and operational support to the leaders of the Private Equity (PE) Business Unit, ensuring efficient execution of processes and systems aligning with the unit's strategic direction. Reporting to the Chief Practice Management Officer for the Business Law Department, you will also play a key role in driving the overall strategy of the department.

This experience enables us to leverage deep market insights and an extensive network of industry relationships to help clients secure deals and build equity value. Drawing on our experience with more than 10,000 emerging growth companies in the tech, healthcare, financial services, consumer, and real estate sectors, we deliver the deepest level of expertise to our private equity clients.

What You'll Do:

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collaborate with PE Business Unit leaders and Finance Team to analyze financial performance.

  • Present information regarding PE's financial performance to partners.

  • Review and analyze core performance metrics and trends.

Operations and Administration:

  • Work with Global Operations Team to manage internal organization, information management, people management, and training for PE.

  • Coordinate with various departments (Marketing, Knowledge Management, Finance, Legal Recruitment, DEI, Learning and Professional Development, and Human Resources) on behalf of PE.

  • Develop and execute PE's strategic and business planning processes.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Facilitate internal communication within PE and coordinate with other business units.

  • Identify and advance PE initiatives and support BU leaders in executing the business plan.

  • Collaborate with attorneys and Global Operations Team for cross-practice collaboration and professional development.

Human Resources and Talent Acquisition:

  • Coordinate lateral hiring needs and integrate lateral associates.

  • Lead the integration of lateral partners.

  • Assist with personnel-related firm initiatives (FlexWork, DEI) and support attorney elevation processes.

Finance and Client Development:

  • Review and analyze PE's financial performance metrics.

  • Collaborate with Client Development and Marketing Teams on collateral development and strategic growth plans.

Professional Development and Knowledge Management:

  • Monitor attorney talent pipeline and facilitate professional development initiatives.

  • Work with Learning and Professional Development Team on training and team-building retreats.

  • Drive Knowledge Management initiatives across the business unit.

Who You Are:

  • 10+ years of experience in a practice management or business development role, preferably at a director level at an AmLaw 100 firm or similar related experience.

  • J.D. or MBA degree preferred.

  • Proven experience in people management promoting collaboration, motivation, and a positive working environment.

  • Superior presentation, writing, and verbal communication skills and professionalism with stakeholders at all levels, including partners and firm management.

  • Exceptional business acumen, adept project management, and analytical skills.

  • Delivered a client service-oriented approach ensuring a commitment to delivering exceptional value to clients and stakeholders.

  • Proven history of consistently enhancing and innovating business operations, technology, infrastructure, and practices within a complex, global professional services framework.
