Managing Director of The Center for Carmelite Studies

Overview

Under the direction of Chair of Carmelite Studies and with the guidance of the Center's Advisory Council, the Managing Director provides program development and management, project and event planning and management, and marketing and outreach support for the coordination and execution of the vision, strategies, and annual programs of the Center for Carmelite Studies. The holder of this position also contributes to the Center's budgeting process, strategic planning efforts, development, and relationship-building and relationship-management with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Chair, the Advisory Board, the School and University leaders, and faculty members to coordinate and contribute to the Center's growth strategies, new program development, community engagement, partnership building, grant proposal writing, fundraising initiatives, marketing and communications.

  • Contribute to and coordinate the development and delivery of workshops, lectures, talks, symposia and other educational programming intended to raise and deepen greater knowledge and understanding of Carmelite history, traditions and spirituality.

  • Oversee and execute all aspects of the Center's events and programming (lectures, forums, conferences, Advisory Council meetings), including logistical support, space reservation, travel and accommodation arrangements for invited speakers/guests, invitations, catering arrangements, development of program materials/packets/agendas, development of marketing and promotional materials (print and digital).

  • Curate, develop, and distribute content for the Center's print and digital marketing channels (e.g., brochures, flyers, website content, email marketing communications, social media content, podcasts, videos, etc.).

  • Oversee the management and updating of the Center's website, social media and other digital channels.

  • Hire and manage staff including interns and volunteers to assist on a part-time basis.

  • Organize outreach efforts and programs for both on-campus and external constituents to raise awareness of the Center's mission, strategies, objectives, and programming.

  • Work closely with appropriate School and University staff and offices in coordinating the Center's budgeting and business operations.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain the Center's files, correspondence, documents, list of contacts, research materials, and other relevant documentation.

  • Participate in learning and professional development to maintain current knowledge of the Center's areas of focus as well as knowledge of relevant business practices and information technology applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Program development and management experience.

  • Experience in event planning and management.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience (or tech-savvy and willingness to learn) regarding such technologies as Google Apps (e.g., Gmail, Google Calendars, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Chrome, etc.)

  • Microsoft Office Suite; digital marketing tools; and contacts relationship management (CRM) systems.

  • Broad familiarity with Carmelite studies.

  • Strong knowledge of the histories, traditions, and spirituality of Carmelite Tradition would be a plus.

  • Strong leadership, organizational and project management skills, including exceptional attentiveness to detail.

  • Clear and effective communication and presentation skills, verbal and written, with a wide variety of faculty, scholars, students, staff, and constituents from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

  • Relationship-building and relationship-management skills.

  • Ability to focus on and advance concurrent priorities and projects while working both independently and collaboratively with others.

  • Availability occasionally during evening hours as needed to support and participate in special events (e.g., an evening public lecture).
