Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Managing Director to lead our Social Services Department.
The Managing Director for Social Services is a key strategic position responsible for leading the organization's mental health, wellness, and social services. The programs under this portfolio include Promise Academy Social Work, Harlem Children's Zone Mobile Crisis Social Services, and Reproductive Health and Wellness Programs. These programs offer holistic, trauma-informed mental health, social services, and educational support for scholars and their families. The leadership of the Managing Director will enhance supportive approaches that help maximize the success of Harlem Children's Zone youth and other target community members and constituents.
This role serves as a member of Harlem's Children's Zone Senior Leadership Team and reports to the Chief Program Officer.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Social Work
Valid LCSW
Must be available to work flexible hours (after hours, weekends, holidays, etc.)
Who you are
Master's degree in social work or closely related field
A professional clinical license (LCSW)
Minimum of 10 years as a social worker with minimum of 5 years of social service leadership experience in a multi-service, community-based organization
Required to be available to work flexible hours (after hours, weekends, holidays, etc.) as needed to mitigate scholar risk and support crisis
A commitment to centering to support mission of children first, servant leadership and place-based work
Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, including the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
Ability to problem solve, analyze, and achieve results
Innovation-oriented, team-oriented, and data-driven leader with high levels of energy and deep commitment to urban youth
Strong project management skills with the ability to coach, develop, and lead talent
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and integrity
Bilingual (Spanish or French) highly desirable
What you'll do
Direct supervision of portfolio directors with administrative oversight of Promise Academy Social Work, Mental Health, and Reproductive Health and Wellness.
Lead the organization's mental health, wellness, social services, and initiatives.
Utilize holistic mental health and wellness best-practice with a solution and client-focused lens.
Ensure quality counseling, crises intervention, and case management services are provided to scholars and families with reduce or eliminate any risk factors that impede a participant's ability to learn or place a participant and family at risk.
Assess high-risk situations and make immediate recommendations and referrals to ensure child safety and reduce or eliminate risk factors.
Select and support research-based curricula to support on-going youth development (anti-bullying, stress management, safe touch. Etc.).
Ensure service delivery is compliant with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Oversee cross-organizational initiatives to improve holistic mental health and wellness strategies.
Maintain a high level of integrity for sensitive family and participant crisis needs.
Monitor crisis prevention and response efforts at the schools and community levels, charting the path for continuous improvement in these efforts.
Administrative Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative oversight of hiring, training, and vision setting to ensure consistent holistic vision and optimal performance of social service professionals.
Budgetary management of several million dollars.
Set vision and expectation for high-quality learning opportunities for staff, families, and community.
Provide high-quality annual reports and quarterly status reports that communicate performance toward all annual targets and dynamic intervention strategies to ensure that annual goals and targets are met.
Work collaboratively with internal departments such as the Research and Evaluation, Development, Promise Charter schools and all Zone programs.
Experience in budget and personnel management, preferably in a non-profit organization.
Effective management skills to successfully lead numerous streams of work in a high-paced, demanding environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
