The Managing Director (MD) of Purdue's Center for the
Environment (C4E) is a key part of the managerial team that supports andimplements C4E's mission to promote proactive, interdisciplinary research,learning, and engagement addressing important environmental challenges. TheManaging Director will work with the C4E director and associated faculty, staffand students to achieve this end. The Managing Director will be responsible forthe management of the day to day activities of C4E which include supporting developmentof signature research areas; working with faculty to create funding strategiesfor large, interdisciplinary projects; expanding the faculty affiliatesprogram; and budgeting. The Managing Director supports all aspects of C4Eincluding representing C4E at functions and meetings when the director isunavailable, supervising administrative/clerical/ student staff, providingleadership and supervision in special initiatives and events, assisting withthe development and implementation of a communications and marketing strategyand associated work plans. The Managing Director will be responsible forreporting and progress assessments of C4E.
Bachelor's degree preferably in environmental sciences,sustainability science, environmental policy, social sciences, or relatedfield.
Threeor more years of experience serving in a managerial role and/or researchmanagement role in environmental or sustainability science, or related field, includingexperience in proposal development.
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Self-motivated and ability to exercise soundjudgement in prioritizing tasks and managing duties of other staff.
Strong project management and supervisory skillsand ability to interact well with people from academia, industry, the public,and government.
Detail oriented, flexible to change, andexcellent problem-solving skills.
Must have technical presentation, proposaldevelopment, and technical writing skills.
Proficient in MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, and/orPublisher and/or Apple iWORKS suite.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Must have desire to work with a diversepopulation.
Ability to multi-task and thrive in a changing,dynamic environment.
Valid US or Canadian Driver's License.
Research experience in environmental science,sustainability science, and/or policy is preferred.
Experience with the academic setting.
Experience in federal agency grant writing.
Must be available for occasional, approximatelythree times per year, domestic or international travel for up to approximatelyone week per trip.
