The Army Division in the Joint and Services (J&S) Center is a mission partner to the United States Army as it works to solve the most critical systems engineering challenges facing the Army today and into the future. The Army is undergoing the largest modernization and transformation effort in its history and has a multitude of challenges across the entire force that the Army Division is uniquely positioned to help.

The Army Division provides critical support to forward deployed Army forces in the IndoPacific, European and Central Commands; to the Army Futures Command (AFC) and its subordinate units - the major command responsible for Army transformation; across the majority of the Army Acquisition Community; to other select Commands and Organizations; and to select staff sections at the Headquarters, Department of the Army.

With a workforce in excess of 200 staff, the division delivers approximately 350 Staff Years of Effort to the Army in meeting their critical challenges.

Job Description:

The Managing Director is responsible for strategically shaping the work program, setting the technical direction of the Army Division's capabilities, growing a diverse team of world-class talent, fostering a culture of connection and belonging, and building collaborative relationships across MITRE's enterprise, with Senior Army Leaders, industry, and academia.

This is a key position for development and implementation of the Army Division's contribution to the J&S Center Strategy, the MITRE National Security Sector (MNS) Strategy and MITRE's Good Growth Strategy. Success in this position will require strategic thinking, creative work shaping and close coordination across the J&S Center, the Air and Space Forces Center, the Intelligence Center and MITRE Labs to maximize impact.

The Managing Director has accountability to the Vice President, J&S Center, for all aspects of the sponsor facing and internal division operations. The Managing Director will also work with the MNS Cross Cutting Priority Leads to ensure alignment of the Army work program where appropriate with efforts across the company in these areas to increase impact.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing a mission focused vision that enables the Army Division to increase the impact of the work program in solving critical Army challenges.

  • Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with Senior Army Leaders to demonstrate commitment to their mission and ability to respond to their most challenging needs.

  • Managing the MITRE Army Advisory Council (MAAC) in their role of providing senior leader feedback on the Army Work Program and enhancing Senior Army Leader engagement

  • Collaborating and partnering with the other J&S Managing Directors in the development of the J&S Center strategy and shaping the work in support of the MNS priorities and other DoD sponsors

  • Collaborating and partnering with the Innovation Centers in development of the Army Work Program and to ensure they provide the highest quality skillsets and capabilities to meet the needs of the division.

  • Leading, managing and developing a workforce of over 200 staff creating strategies for growth, advancement, training, and an effective work environment to ensure a satisfying career for each staff member.

  • Communicating clear expectations and goals that ensure all staff understand their contributions to key Army outcomes.

  • Fostering an environment of connection and belonging, with a focus on inclusion and diversity.

  • Being an exemplary model of MITRE Cultural / Behavioral Attributes: Speed, Risk Taking, Adaptability, Grace and Respect, and Collaboration.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of related experience with a STEM related Bachelor's degree; or 12 years and a Master's degree; or a 10 years with a PhD; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading and managing people and teams (Department Manager, Portfolio Manager, Managing Director) with a proven track record of sponsor focus and strong employee engagement.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish trusted advisor relationships with senior Government leaders.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Department of Defense and National Security challenges.

  • TS Clearance with ability to receive an SCI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Army and its operations, policies, doctrine, etc.

  • Experience supporting Army commands and organizations and/or Joint Commands/Operations, Tactical Edge Warfighting experience.

  • Knowledge and experience with the DoD Acquisition processes.
