Working at the intersection of technology, markets, and policy, Navigant's energy technology consultants help clients innovate to address opportunities and challenges presented by energy efficient technologies and distributed energy resources (DER) for the built environment. Navigant is one of few firms with an on-site laboratory, and our experience in R&D management allows us to help clients determine new products and paths to market. More than 60 subject matter experts bring their dedicated experience in policy, technical, design, manufacturing, and standards compliance to this field.

Responsibilities

Navigant seeks Managing Consultants for various and unanticipated worksites throughout the US (Headquarters Chicago, IL) to:

  • Consult with clients to manage large-scale projects for the energy industry and markets including US Department of Energy's (DOE) efficiency standards and test procedures, rulemaking programs and cost improvement for commercial and consumer appliances/equipment and impact recommendations.

  • Manage projects/work-streams as appropriate to meet deadlines within constraints of budget, scope and available resources.

  • Interact with the clients on regular basis to ensure that expectations and project deliverables are submitted in timely manner.

  • Develop teams and individuals through coaching, feedback and apprenticeship, assign work to junior staff including engineering energy efficiency analysis, market impact assessments, energy system modeling, experimental testing, drafting rulemaking.

  • Assess the potential economic impact of amended standards and energy programs on the manufacturing cost of the product, the environment, manufacturers and the industry based on market assessments, implementation impact, scouting of technology options for residential and commercial appliances and equipment.

  • Develop and analyze models for conducting engineering analysis, market research and predicting trends from available data.

  • Review rulemaking analyses including life-cycle cost and payback period analysis and energy use analysis based on interviews with manufacturers and address public comments.

  • Write and review Federal Register notices and codes of federal regulations (CFR) concerning technical engineering and energy policy rules.

  • Present at public meetings. Assist others with business development and sales activities; approach contacts with new business opportunities under the guidance of senior practitioners.

  • Tools: Excel Macros (VBA), Analytica, Tableau.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental/Engineering Management or related field plus 2 years of experience in the job offered or in energy analysis OR Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or Environmental/Engineering Management or related field plus 5 years of experience in the job offered or in energy analysis required.

  • Specific Skills Required: Hands on consulting experience conducting manufacturing impact, market assessment, implementation impact (manufacturer, consumer, environment), evaluating cost of improvements in efficiency for commercial and consumer electrical/mechanical appliances/equipment (HVAC, home appliances, electrical, lighting); technical and financial modeling of energy efficiency programs (early replacement incentives and energy costs); determining cumulative regulatory burden to manufacturers; work with DOE on energy standards, test procedures, policy and rulemaking and making energy program cost/impact recommendations; present at public meetings, draft Federal Register notices and CFR technical engineering and energy policy rules; project management including scheduling.
