Position Summary:

The Manager of Web Services and Middleware manages and supports the Web Services team consisting of a systems engineer and a systems developer position. Collectively the Web Services team is responsible for many software applications, both hosted and on premise, and many application integrations.

The manager's role is to effectively plan and prioritize the overall strategy for the Web Services team and to provide support and direction to team members. The overall strategy may include application upgrades, application development, integrations between applications, new server installs, and managing SAAS applications. This role must effectively work with IT department personnel, campus leaders, and other stakeholders to define and support business processes and campus initiatives.

Job Description:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, train, and support Web Services team developers

  • Encourage developers to seek opportunities for professional development both personally and in support of the College's goals

  • Schedule and attend meetings to strategize and plan for effectively supporting campus initiatives

  • Collaborate with other department leaders and staff to plan and develop effective solutions to support business processes

  • Manage domains and SSL certificates for the organization

  • Subscribe to necessary sources of application and operating system information to be informed of critical security vulnerabilities

  • Research new technologies and standards

  • Develop, implement and/or enhance software systems

  • Integrate 3rd party systems with existing environment

  • Provide 2nd level support for existing software systems

  • Recommend procedural changes where necessary

  • Plan and coordinate requests for proposals for new software products when necessary

  • Develop and maintain Project Requirements, Project Charters, and/or other project documents on designated projects when necessary

  • Design and develop written and on-line training materials for end users to support new or improved products or processes

  • Assist functional areas in delivering training to appropriate end users for new or improved processes

  • Connect with team members on a regular basis to review status of projects and support cases, provide technical direction, and summarize completed work

  • Communicate process changes, enhancements, and modifications to other manages, peers, staff, and other employees so that issues and solutions are understood

  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and oral communication skills

  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under pressure

  • Assist functional areas in managing Office 365 applications such as Sharepoint and Teams

  • Other duties as assigned by the IT Director.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities

  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508.

  • Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.

Required Education, Specialized Skills, and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant work experience. Four years of closely related work experience may substitute for bachelor's degree

  • Technically fluent in some form of programming language such as Java, .NET, C++, PHP, etc

  • Solid working knowledge of current Internet technologies, including TCP/IP and HTTP/HTTPS, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and HTML and CSS

  • Hands-on software troubleshooting experience

  • Ability to organize, delegate and have attention to detail

  • Ability to produce written technical documentation in a user-friendly format

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Preferred Education, Specialized Skills, and Experience:

  • Experience managing and supporting a small team of developers

  • Experience collaborating with various campus stakeholders

  • Experience working with Windows Server and Linux operating systems

  • Knowledge and experience of web server software including Internet Information Server, Apache Http Server, and Apache Tomcat

  • Experience working with multiple database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle

  • Proficiency in developing and supporting programs using a variety of programming languages including Java and .NET

  • Familiarity with shell/scripting languages such Bash, Perl, JavaScript, and Powershell

  • Experience working with a variety of web software applications such as DotNetNuke, Grouper, mid

Point, and 25Live

Compensation

The salary range is $91,000 to $96,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package
