The Manager, Vehicle Systems is responsible for leading the design, schedule, budget, development, integration, procurement, build, and team execution of all propulsion, fluid systems (fuel, hydraulics, oil), and thermal management systems on the aircraft.
Manages the day to day activities of a variety of supervisors, tech leads, and individual engineers in the aforementioned engineering disciplines.
Hiring and personnel management of an eventual team of 10 engineers spanning Engr I-V experience levels; responsible for performance reviews, rewards planning, and staffing decisions.
Responsible for the technical performance, cost, and schedule related to vehicle design, analysis, manufacturing, procurement, contracting, planning, capital equipment, and systems integration.
Directing design and integration activities, coordinating project deliverables and schedules, and reporting status to program management.
Leads the team in the design and analysis of vehicle systems and engine integration throughout entire product design lifecycle including trade studies, conceptual design, preliminary design, detail design, engineering release, technical reviews, and revision change management.
Responsible for preparing and presenting technical performance, cost, and schedule material for major design and requirements reviews to program management and engineering technical community.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Physics is required. Major in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is preferred. Major in Electrical Engineering will be considered.
Master's Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above is preferred.
12 years of experience preferred in aircraft design, integration, fabrication, assembly, test, certification / qualification and supplier management is preferred.
Experience with "engine degradation and engine health tracking/monitoring" desired power available and NATOPs performance charts experience is required.
Familiarity with power assurance/engine performance algorithms and thermodynamic engine cycle models, engine stability audits/surge margin is required.
Experience with hydraulic motors/valves and fuel system valves/components is preferred.
Exhaust and IR Suppressor design experience is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in managing & coordinating multidiscipline teams including; engineering, manufacturing, tooling, MRB, quality and supply chain management is preferred.
Demonstrated experience managing aircraft suppliers during development phase of aircraft program is required.
Must be a proven self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with excellent foresight and problem solving skills.
Must have the ability to delegate, prioritize tasks and work assignments, mentor direct reports, and identify and provide opportunities for career development for direct reports
Must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external suppliers, as well as horizontal integrations across the other teams to complete design, analysis, and program tasks.
Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, and have the ability to work effectively within a team.
Experience with rotorcraft propulsion systems integration, development, and testing is required.
Familiarity with military qualification of aircraft systems and their respective components is required.
Experience with Primary Development/Analysis Environments:
Turboshaft engine thermodynamic models (cycle decks) and power available projections
Fluent CFD analysis
AMESim Fluid/Thermal network analysis experience is desirable
Sinda Thermal analysis
Previous experience with EVMS is preferred.
