First Solar's sales department seeks candidates who believe in our mission of providing cost-advantaged solar technology through innovation, customer engagement, industry leadership and operational excellence. First Solar's sales team is responsible for building sales and revenue generation by leveraging the company's differentiated products and industry-leading execution capabilities. Their mission is to engage customers, service their needs and win their business and trust, all while working collaboratively across First Solar functions to create innovative offerings to support First Solar's growth, profitability and liquidity goals.

The sales team looks for motivated individuals to engage the market with products, systems and services that meet our customers' renewable energy needs and continuously look for ways to improve processes to help us lead the world's sustainable energy future.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in the Power and Renewables industry with preferred exposure to origination, development, and project finance

  • Experience in structuring and/or negotiating PPAs and energy hedges

  • Experience in developing, implementing and managing statistical and fundamental power market models to forecast power market prices

  • Extensive knowledge of the full-cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation development and marketing

Education:

  • Bachelors and/or Graduate Degree, in Economics, Engineering, Business, Government, Public Policy or related discipline

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills

  • Strength in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, ABB Velocity Suite, Morningstar Data for Commodities, and SNL.com Apps.

  • Strong understanding of power/energy markets, ISO/RTO market function

  • Understanding of applications for photovoltaic solutions and CdTe technology

  • Independent self-starter who can meet deadlines and deliver quality products with minimal oversight

  • Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams in multiple First Solar office locations

  • Willingness and ability to travel

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop customer and markets plan (long-term/strategic and short term) for region or market segment

  • Source new customer relationships and opportunities

  • Responsible for gathering real-time market feedback, performing market analyses and evaluating market parameters in coordination with Development, Government Affairs, and Project Finance.

  • Leads and project manages cross-functional teams to support preparation of solicited and unsolicited offers that arise from formal and informal RFP processes.

  • Leads and project manages key commercial transactions and negotiations related to PPAs and other related offtake agreements.

  • Lead sourcing and integration of new customers in the US solar market including Investor Owned Utility (IOU), Community Choice Aggregator (CCA), and Public Power utility sectors

  • Lead customer account planning and the execution of business strategies to secure power purchase, build-transfer, and other related offtake agreements

  • Maintain database(s) to track pricing proposals, and market clearing prices of power purchase agreements and system sales

  • Origination Output:

  • Deliver presentations to customers and First Solar senior staff and executives

  • Develop trusted professional relationships with each customer

  • Support origination efforts and RFP responses

  • Resolve commercial matters/first point of customer service

  • Investigate new market segments and assess viability for First Solar products

  • Competitive Analysis:

  • Support competitive analysis and pricing structures through securing competitive pricing and a deep understanding of competitor products and offerings

  • Secure front line market intelligence and communicate to the broader organization

  • Manage progress of transactions from origination through contract execution

  • Knowledge/technical proficiency:

  • Financial markets participants, structures, pricing trends

  • Understanding and communication of First Solar modules, system designs and technical performance & First Solar product advances

  • Be current with First Solar competitor offerings and gather competitive intelligence

  • Current in all customer, industry, gov affairs and regulatory policy/news

  • First Solar commercial/legal offerings

  • Assist Marcom (corporate marketing and communication) on the development of marketing collateral including press releases, articles, and technical papers. Support press events, conference exhibit participation

  • Other duties as assigned

Reporting Relationships:

  • The Manager will work closely with the Development, Project Finance, and Government Affairs teams to structure transactions and support transaction

  • This position can have direct reports

Travel:

  • 10% - 20%
